Omar Kelly: Mike Zimmer front runner for Dolphins Job

Omar Kelly
  • For those who don't know....Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer is viewed as the front runner to become the Dolphins next head coach because of his existing relationship with GM Jeff Ireland. However, the Dolphins better make sure Zimmer has a good OC in mind. If its Todd Haley....done deal.

I think its gonna happen.......here's a good article(endorsement) on Zimmer from Gil Brandt:

http://www.tampabay.com/blogs/bucs/content/some-perspective-possible-bucs-candidate-mike-zimmer

"I’ve known Mike Zimmer since he was a grad assistant at Weber State," Brandt said, "and I think he'd make a great head coach."
Brandt offered a number of reasons, including Zimmer's long years of experience as an assistant and his appropriate demeanor for the job.
"Mike is a guy who, I think, (based) on my picture of a coach, is a level guy," Brandt said. "He’s very level headed and consistent. I think he also has very good knowledge on both sides of the ball. And I think you go back and look at his history, he once turned down the head coach job at Nebraska because he wanted to coach in the NFL. I think that tells you something about where his heart is.
"I just think he’s very, very good."
Brandt also praised Zimmer's eye for talent, calling him "a very astute evaluator of players." And here's something interesting that you should keep in mind as we try to keep up with this coaching search. Brandt emphasized that Zimmer's history as a defensive backs coach makes him uniquely qualified to coach in today's NFL.

Why can't we sign someone simply because they are the (next) best man for the job ?

Not because of their previous association to the Cowboys / Ireland

Really hope Omar is guessing as usual. If Zimmer is the best remaining option then tell me why that is; why he's more than just a good coordinator; why he's not landed a head coaching job before considering his age / how long he's been a coordinator

The fact is he may very well be the best man for the job but it is just to easy to report his past relationship to Ireland and the fact he worked for the Cowboys. He should have been hired as HC instead of Sparano but Bill picked his boy. Zimmer is very well respected in the league and many think he is overdo for a head coaching job.

Will Ross close the deal or lose him to the Bucs (interviewing today, could get desparate at the news)...

Here comes another Cowboy! Everybody fill up the feeding trough, here comes shuffling over some more cornfed linemen (maybe we'll get some more of the defensive variety this time)!

If Zim is the choice, why even let him visit the Bucs. Go ahead and make the offer. This waiting around crap is getting old. This is why I think this front office is clueless.

The 'waiting around crap' is just impatient fans. I am glad they are being thorough in their search and maybe Zimmer is their top choice but he is not their only one.

Make no mistake... If the Bucs hire Zimmer while we're farting around with Mike McCoy, I'll be irate.

I live in Tampa ,and the Bucs want to take their time picking their new coach...
I'm pretty sure if it came down to it Zimmer would come to us considering more money we would offer and better talent level.
As of right now, the Bucs are in a way worse state than us.
The media gets on us so much because they know we are only a QB away from a playoff team.
I would love Zimmer-HC, Haley-OC, and Bowles-DC. Trade up for RG3 ,and Im an ecstatic!!
Those 3 are firey guys with leadership skills and player relatability, which is what we need..Players coaches, willing to take risks, and all of them could possibly get or have had head coaching jobs.
I know everyone hates Ross ,but at least he's stuck to his guns , and if he didn't we would have Brian ****tinghimer as our OC.
Ross said we will make a splash ,so I'm hoping he signs big time Free Agents and drafts one of the two top QBs assuming the Colts are willing to wheel and deal
One word-IDEAL!!! Go Dolphins

That would sell tickets and could potentially lead to a good team...

A crappy coach and Moore and the stadium is 65% empty with another year of mediocrity.
