On Cam Wake : Make up your mind, sign him or trade him

What do you do if a "we're a player away from winning it all" team offers you, let's say, a first and third for Cam. Do you puul the trigger and "officially" re-build?

We'd never get a first AND a third but I'd take a late first in a heartbeat and never look back.

wait, everyone in the media says we are rebuilding....are we or arent we?

we report, you decide. lol

We only have about 7 to 8 mil of cap space left, right? Fair market value for Wake will be 8 mil+ per year. We will need about 6 to 8 mil in cap to sign rookies. See the dilemma? Why do so many people think this is madden football? He CAN'T hold out of mandatory activities. It would be moronic under the new CBA. The first step will have to be restructuring Jake Long, and this will only happen after the staff has reached the conclusion that he is 100 percent healthy and his skills havent declined. THEN we can begin to have serious talks with Wake. No matter what happens, though, Wake will play for the Dolphins this year, and i believe he will play well.

Wake will get his money, but right now he has no leverage, first things first, sing the draft picks, then sign him or trade him, he knows that the fins are not going to give him big bucks before they draft. He needs to get his A_ _ back in camp.

If we don't make a decision quickly we're going to end up losing him and getting nothing in return, or suffering thru a lengthy hold out that hurts the chemistry of a team with a brand new coaching staff. Great stuff, right?

If we were a team contending for a championship, it'd be a different story. We could try and get the most out of him this season, and at the end of the day it wouldn't kill us if we gave it a good run this year then lost him for nothing. We are a team with very little going for it right now, and we can't afford to let valuable trading chips simply walk.

Point blank, we can give up late game winning touchdowns to the pitiful likes of Tim Tebow and Colt McCoy with our without Cam Wake. What we NEED to do is build for the future and put a good product on the field thru the draft. We won't do that unless we accumulate more picks.

Wake has a year left on his contract, so even if the Fins don't do anything now, they could always franchise tag him next year if need be. The Fins have enough money right now to sign their draft picks and the undrafted free agents, they don't have the money now to sign Wake to a long term deal.

We'd all like to have Cam wrapped up and happy and know that it's settled. Heck, I'd like Longs contract redone, I'd like to know who our #1 receiver's going to be, who our starting QB will be, and if Daniel Thomas is going to have a break out season now that he's healthy and he'll have a full training camp.

Unfortunately, these things move at their own pace, each one dependant in some way on the move before it, and affecting the move after it. And nobody involved gives a hoot that I really want to know now! So, I guess they'll have to move forward with whatever's their next priority. Hmmm, the draft is 2 days away. How about we start there?

or they could just wait until after the draft....
that's kind of more important at this particular time... don't ya think...

This organization needs to make a decision quickly on what Cam Wake's future is. With how much of a laughing stock the team has become, the last thing we want is yet another circus in the form of a holdout from our best defensive player.
If he's demanding something reasonable, pay the guy, plain and simple. If he's demanding something outrageous, get a high draft pick for him this year, improve the team via the draft, and move the **** on. We can't have a big pain in the ass in the form of a holdout, and we certainly can't let this guy walk at the end of next year without getting anything for him. That would be a big fat waste, particularly since our expectations for next year aren't exactly through the roof.
Do the right thing for once, for God's sake.

That's a bunch of bunk...they signed him to a contract, waited a year for him to develop and after a down year, one in which he didn't get himself ready to play well early in the season, we should trade him or reward him with a big contract ?? BS...he's under contract. They are in the drivers seat here. Play him this year, if he plays well, tag him for at least the following year. By that time, he'll be 33 and he can move on...

we dont have the space to sign him at this moment and the draft is coming up. what is wrong with the fans of this team? hold outs are common and we dont even know if wake is going to hold out yet. he simply is not going to go through the whole voluntary thing. heck, the guy even did show up last week. he is just making a statement. RELAX.

This came to pass because Wake obviously has an idiot as his agent. If they both had confidence in Wake's ability they never would have signed him to such a long contract. In then end Miami just need to get Wake or Long signed to a long term contract and franchise the other. This is the realities of the league and the salary cap, to be a successful franchise you need to get good value and clearly they have got great value with Wake.

I would wait till the season plays out and then negotiate based on this season. Worst case scenerio we can franchise him. If I were Cam Wake though, I'd bevery anxious to get a contract done before Jake Long does, because whoever doesnt sign this year will be franchised.

Not sure this will work since we are so close to the cap I believe he needs Jake to renegotiate his contract so we have the salary cap space to sign him.
