One week into camp, predict our WR corp

How is Matthews looking? Haven't heard much. But I think you have to go with a predictable line up

wallace
Hartline
gibson
Landry
Mathews

I think damien williams makes the team (the RB) which means we can keep the 5 I mentioned

I can see a situation where both Williams make the final 53. Or neither for that matter. The three unknown guys I was really pulling for coming into camp was Williams the RB, Chris McClain the LB, and Anthony Johnson the DL. I think McClain can become a 3rd down OLB in pass rushing situations. He has the tools to become a dynamic pass rusher. I expect to see him rise up the depth chart after the first couple preseason games.

One thing I think many are forgetting is Thiggy. Someone has to be our STs guy. If Damian Williams (WR) or Damien Williams (RB) can take over the return duties Thiggy might be out the door, but if not then Thiggy stays which will mean we can probably only keep 5 more WRs. It will come down to how they play in preseason but I can see a trade in the works if some of the young guys play well.

I love Hartline and would hate to see him leave but I can see a situation where either Hartline, Gibson (if healthly) or Mathews is traded to a team who suffers a couple injuries at the WR position.

I think a player like Damian Williams has a great chance to make the roster because of his return abilities and because he is a better WR than Thiggy. Then again Thiggy if used correctly could bring a lot to the offense as well. I also think Binns has a realistic shot at the final 53 because of his redzone ability. But he has to stay completely healthly and play well in the preseason games.

I think there are only two stone cold locks to make the final 53, Wallace and Landry. Hartline is about 95% to be here because it might cost us too much to trade him. Gibson is around 85% to be here and then Mathews, Williams, Thiggy, Binns in that order. If Williams stock drops from being bad as a returner it will hurt him, and if Thiggy doesn't become a bigger part of the offense it will hurt him. The RB Williams might be the difference . If he is able to become the returner then that might open up another spot for either the other Williams or Binns. That is my take, for what it's worth.

Jarvis Landry is going to get a shot at being the return guy in preseason. Darren Rizzi (our ST coach) said as much today in the post practice comments.

hmm its hard to say anything without watching them play in a game.give me 3 preseason games

i think it's 5...wallace hartline gibson mathews landry...that's the 5 i would keep if healthy...that's the only 5 i think you can depend on to make plays against top 3 corners of the opposition...or better yet the only 5 i think you'd feel like you had mismatches to exploit

Wallace
Hartline
Matthews
Gibson
Landry

My question is can Binns be put on PS because he did not play last year and was a rookie year before? If so they have some playing room for him.

Thigpen has competition at KR and him keeping his job depends on that IMO.

Its nice to have this problem. To think two years ago we had Hartline, Bess, and Naaneepoo.

At the very least I predict Landry will do what Bess was doing for us on punt returns, which was to make good decisions on fair catches and have reliable hands. I think its likely somebody else will return kickoffs and returnable punts.

I'd prefer to keep 6
Wallace
Hartline
Gibson
Landry
Binns
Damian Williams PR/KR

If it's only 5, then I'm reluctantly dropping Binns. I think that there is a real chance that Matthews misses out. If Damian Williams is fully healthy he will be hard to cut.

Binns can't go to the practice squad. He played in 7 games for Cincy in 2012 and 3 games (I think) for us that same season after he was claimed on waivers.

i will have to see how they look in the preseason but i think this team may be wiser to keep a 5th dt anthony johnson or aj francis rather than a 6th wr...and i still don't think anyones taking thiggys return job

1- Wallace
2-Hartline
3-Gibson
3b- Landry
5- Binns

i myself keep 6 and keep hazel

Based on what little I've heard... I think AJ Francis may be a lock to make this team. Hopefully he'll help us forget about Soliai!
