Diehard Phinatic!
Only two quarterbacks taken out of the first round since 2003 are considered star material today. Matt Schaub was drafted in the third round by Atlanta, sat three years, then traded to Houston. Tony Romo was undrafted. Neither, by the way, has won a playoff game. Can you still find good quarterbacks out of the first round? Sure. But it's not the way to construct your blueprint for building a champion. The odds are just too great.
Here's the conversation-ending stat to those wanting the Dolphins pass on a 1st-rnd QB for a 2nd rnder: Only 1 QB drafted in Rounds 2-7 since 2003 has won a post-season game. One. That was T.J. Yates last year. Yates is the 3rd-string QB for Houston. Matt Schaub would've filled that criteria if he had been healthy for Houston. But, either way, if there's a blemish in a quarterback that pushes him out from the 1st rnd it doesn't disappear. Consider: 98 QBs were drafted since 2003 in Rnds 2-7.
So you really wanna take a risk on weeden/osweiler?
