Orton update per rotoworld

I was able to speak with Kyle Orton tonight -- well, not exactly. Through perseverance I was able to arrange a phone conversation with his agent. He was extremely informative in the process, and all that I can say is that the trade discussions are far from over.

I will discuss my findings further in Sunday night's chat sessions.

I wouldn't mind a trade for Orton, but his currently salary frightens me for a player that may end up being a short-term rental. I was under the impression that trade talks stalled because Kyle was unwilling to budge on salary, and that talks never reached compensation because of this. And I was also under the impression that the Broncos would still need to pay him a hefty amount of money, even if they traded him away. It seems as though (financially speaking, and also given that he's currently their best QB) they might as well keep him until he becomes a FA.

I have to say that next year offers a few more options than have been available this year via the draft. It looks to be a pretty deep QB class. I would love for them to enhance the position this year but not at the expense of throwing a lot of money at a guy who probably is not the long term answer anyway....

YOU DONT KNOW FOOTBALL IF YOU DONT KNOW THAT PALMER ISNT BETTER THAN ORTON >? OMG!! its very obvouis palmer has had better years than orton you can say what you want look up stats or what ever but palmer if we had him we would be in contention right now we are set at every other poss ol dl wr and rb maybe a lil depth at ol but we are ready to make a run and as far as i know palmer hasnt filed his retirment papers yet we may not get him but we should have made a run at hasselback or one of the other qbs before they was all sent out to diff teams while we sit and twiddle our thumbs i cant wait till there all frickin gone and we get a new GM and coach in here because its obvious what we have dosent have a clue at what there doing

I said at this point in palmer's career. The last three seasons Palmer hasnt been better than orton its been about a wash.

:) Yes, we have! IMO, part of the reason for all the waiting is the fact that we have always tended to go out and overspend on QBs via trades who really are not worthy of the level of compensation. Not blaming all out issues on that now but it is part of the equation...
