Orton update per rotoworld

Is 8 million really out of the question? Isn't it merely the going rate for a starting QB?

I guess the question would be, "Are you absolutely sure that Orton better fir for the Dolphins than Henne?" I, for one, am not convinced of that and not agreeable to committing to his contract demands as well as a pick(s).

You can't honestly believe this, when has any teams preseason really panned out to show what happens in the regular season?

Yes I believe this. That's been the case the past 2 years. Our offense sucks in pre season and the idiots say it's just pre season, it doesn't mean anything. Well you're neive if you think 1st team professionals are not trying to score just because it's preseason. When has any teams preseason really panned out to show what happens you ask, well did you watch any games last year. Sheesh

true lets wait till next year just like every other year

Looks like Chad Henne is our QB. We'll see what he does in pre season. If he's back to the dump off's, I don't want to hear any of you DA's saying Daboll doesn't want to show the offense yet. The points we put up in Pre Season with our 1st team is going to be a mirror image of our actual offense during the season. Settling for field goals during pre season means settling for FG's during the regular season.

no it wont.

yeah, an offense with all the non starters playin 50% plus dictates the season. this nonsense has been debumked time and time again. teams go undefeated or they lose all but then season starts and nothing looks the same.

dude. you should just shut the yap on this one. this preseason is going to be the worst ever. for everybody!

And no game planning whatsoever.

A helpful perspective on what really took place and present status - from Mike Klis at the Denver Post:

So the bottom line is that Miami would not pay up for Orton to make him their guy at QB. They did that for Dansby and Marshall. But they didn't feel like Orton was their guy in that same way. So they just tinkered around with the possibility and it fell apart on them. That's just sad.

You have the same feeling that Ireland has.

The Bears tried everything to get rid of Orton. They hoped Grossman would unseat him then finally pulled the Cutler trade because they felt they wanted an UPGRADE. Same thing with Den. They drafted Tebow and traded for Quinn... because they want an UPGRADE. Apparently from checking out Den forums... Orton is basically a Pennington type of QB. Weak arm, no zip on the ball, and not an over 20 yards passer. He's overperformed... and has played stellar... but teams want a strong armed QB that can stretch the field. So if we drafted Henne in order to find a UPGRADE over Pennington, not because Pennington's play wasnt stellar... but because they felt Pennington couldnt stretch the field with this 'weak arm', no zip on the ball, and not an over 20 yards passer. So now an Orton trade would basically be Miami going back to that type of QB... I want Ireland to hopefully convince Cincy to trade Palmer. But having said that, I liked Pennington over Henne... and would feel we have a better chance at winning games with Orton over Henne as well... just saying.

if the dolphins struggle because of qb play then this FO should be let go
year 4 was supposed to be the glory year

Orton has always wanted a starters money, multi-year contract just like what Kevin Kolb just got. Hes NOT signing for one year deal disguised as a 2-3 deal. He wants to be the man and be paid accordingly.

Orton is Penny 2.0 without the shoulder problems.
I think his arm adequate.
The fallacy here is that you need a QB that can launch it 70+ yards.
The truth is that those long passes happen very infrequently.
Most of the long passing plays are from throws that travel 40 yards or less. The rest is YAC.
What is most important is how the player reacts in a tight game to make the plays needed to get the win. This means making precise throws and avoiding the turnover.

If the Fins are not convinced that he can unseat Henne, then we are wasting everyone's time.
If he has the goods they are looking for, pay the man and stop screwing around.

Sigh...who does it matter, I'm just going to be super happy come our first Monday night football game when Pouncy plants Haynesworthless on his face in the first quarter. I'm watching our offensive line...the fun will happen there, cuz obviously our quarterbacks aren't going to provide entertainment.

Obviously you missed the point when I said 1st team starters. Obviously win loss doesn't mean anything but if the Phins first team plays against their first team for a quarter or a half and you have trouble moving the ball, then that's been the precursor for our sorry offense for the past two years. You always get the excuses, oh the offense takes longer to gel. Oh Pouncey needs time to learn and communicate with the OL. Oh They're not showing what Henne can do they're not going to throw the long ball. Thats BS. Dump off in pre season means he abandoned the play and will dump off in the regular season.
