Otah and Carlson

Not by a 40 time...the 10 and 20 yds are far better to show what a Tackle can do...but when they run that 40...they break that 40 into different parts...so the 40 has it's purpose...and by the way...I'm not the fool.

A tackle that runs in the 5.50 time isn't quick enough no matter what you would wish...and he's no LT.

correct... the split times are what you want to be paying attention too.
those are some measurables you can work with.
5.0-5.25 is what I would say is a good measure for the OL
sub 5 and your doing quite well.

No link available, but I heard John Clayton on "The Huddle" this afternoon on ESPN radio state that Otah suffered a high ankle sprain a few weeks ago and is still a little hampered by that. Only been training a couple of weeks. Thought he would get credit for performing despite the injury.

Otah did look incredibly slow even by Tackle standards. That said I'm far less concerned about the 40 than I am about what I saw in the one on one drills. He had noticeably less bend and was much higher up in his stance than most of other tackles in the drill. If he was injured that is one thing, otherwise I would see that as a huge liability in space which would kncck him out of the left tackle sweepstakes in my book. Long looked great overall as expected. I also thought Chris Williams looked great in the drills, but his strength has to be question at only 21-22 reps in the bench.

of the top OT prospects, the only guy who is clear cut not a LT is Gosder Cherilus, who proved he was not a LT during his senior season. Many on the board may not think Jake Long is a LT in the long run, but a lot of scouts seem to think he will be, and a lot of scouts were also surprised by his athleticism today. Otah may bot be fast, but he has the footwork, and if he falls to 32, he's the guy.

I disagree. Jeff Otah ran a 5.56 (I believe) and I'm still certain he's one of the 3 best LT prospects in this draft.

Every LT that does well in the NFL runs closer to the 5.0's than the 5.50's...thats a fact. Look at the players taken every year in the draft...the top players run the better times...and they play at LT. If Otah is rated by some as one of the top three LT's in this draft...then it must be a lousy draft for LT's.

Actually, he also had the same problem in the drill where coach moves the ball in the direction he wants the player to go. It's apparent that he's going to have to do a lot of work to bend his knees on a more consistent basis, get that butt down, or else, he's going to have problems with bull rushers and speed rushers.

As far as Carlson's 40, when the pads come on, he appears to have good functional playing speed...I'd wouldn't think twice about drafting him.
