Our '06 QB will play a lot tonight!

Lets see. We'd have to trade two or three high round picks. Not exactly a good thing for an older team. There's Rivers' learning curve. Then our oline would have to clear big passing lanes & get familiar with his low release, which is about their shoulder level.
Chad Pennington had no learning curve after sitting 3 years? Why would rivers when he's more talented and just as smart?

Rivers is the back up because he lost the QB competition last year. He headed in with an early edge but Brees stepped up his game.
No he lost the starting spot cause like an idiot he held out for a couple of weeks and never caught up. On top of which whats the shame in losing out to a guy who made the pro bowl last year?

He sat two years. One under the old regime & one under Edwards regime where he had time to learn the offense & practice with the team. Rivers hasn't exactly been impressive this preseason vs a bunch of second stringers.

Tonighthe wasnt impressive. completing 10+ passes in a row twice thsi preseason however is impressive. I dont like that it was against 2nd stringers but hes got hella talent. Accuracy, touch, pocket prescence are pinpoint and while his arm isnt spectacular I believe he'll make any throw except maybe the cross field 18-20 yard out. He understands what hes seeing.

As far as the comparison to Pennington, regardless Rivers has the same learning curve. Rivers will have experienced a pro style offense for 2 years and learned the ropes of this league.

I liked Rivers a lot coming out of college, I can't say that I would be upset if we traded for him. That said, I think I'd rather just get a good 1st round pick or 2nd round pick next year and take a guy out of college. Rivers has a huge contract and its going to take multiple picks to get him, a Qb out of college is only going to cost one.

It would be one of the worst moves we could make & we'd be set back another 3 years.

jesus man they have been in the league now for atleast one year the worst move that we could make would to take a qb in the draft if it isnt mr usc matt and he would set us back 3 years to so imo rivers has to much cap hit to trade it will be brees and he would be better than drafting matt he can come in right away and contribute and he coming here would not set us back 3 years imo brees will be the one that is traded no matter how he plays this year wheather he comes here or else where but rivers will stay in charger country go look at the cap hit they would take trading rivers there is noway we would be set back if we took brees and not the worst move either any rookie qb imo will take atleast 2 to 3 years so the worst move would be drafting one now if we want to win a sb in about 5 years than ok but if we want to win now brees will be the man to do that :shakeno:
