Our Denial

I think many of us are or have been blinded by our own passion for our beloved team. However, after 20 some years as a fan I see our team for what it is Sub Par. We have some promising young players and some great veterans on the decline. Age catches up to us all. This team will be improved and better deciplined. I think when you look realisticly at our situation I think 7 or 8 wins would be a major accomplishment. The truth is the other teams in our division are better than us. I hear a alot talk around here about how everyone our division has lost more than they've gained. This is only marginally true if not misleading. The Patriots wont be the same team for sure, but this team is still filled with players who knows how to win, and they have a coach that knows how help them accomplish that. The jets lost a back up running back, key defender, and there are questions about Penningtons health. I think most of us want Penningtons injury to be worse than it is. He'll be fine and he'll be throwing balls to Coles. Incase you dont remember these guys have great chemistry, and oh yea a guy called Curtis Martin. Another fact you cant ignore is this team was one play away from the AFC championship. Finally, we have the hated Bills. I dont think there was hotter team down the stretch last year. They lost Bledsoe I say so what. Yea, they have some qb questions. There's no way their qb situation is worse than ours. Their entire organization and fans are excited about Losman. Which is more than I can say about anyone on our roster. Thier untimate success is in his hands. What if this guy is real deal. The bills could steal the division. I think we'll be better, but still bottom feeders, for now.

Yeah, Losman was stunning in his first preseason game. Why don't you judge the Dolphins by the same standards you judge other teams by. Some in the media think J-ville could emerge as a surprise team. Did Leftwich impress you last Saturday? Pennington is one hard hit from being lost for the season and there is no guarantee his arm strength will return to what it was (even then it was average).
If I'm a Bills fan, I'm a little concerned about Losman and even more concerned about the durability of McGahee. He's been held out of practice for "precautionary reasons".

Some here may be in denial, but you are on the other extreme my friend.

I don't put any limitations on possibilities and I've been a fan a lot longer than you, I've seen teams go from the bottom to the top in one year and it not be expected.

No one knows until we get into the season what will happen, we certainly can't claim to own a crystal ball based on 2 pre-season games......that would be foolish.

I totally agree that when looking at our team objectively, we shouldn't expect that many wins this year. But there is one X factor...... I'm not sure I would underestimate Saban. Much like his buddy, Bellichick, who I have underestimated on several occasions, I think Saban may surprise a lot of people. He has done a terrific job this year and he is an extremely competitive coach. As we all know, he has never coached a losing season.

The Saban Factor, which we have not really seen yet, will be employing some amazing game day schemes and pressure defenses that will throw many teams off of their game plans. You think Belly is a great strategist, remember...he looked to Saban for advice. Belly called him the best "all-around" coach he has ever seen. That says something.

Saban is also a great motivator - who in the world would've ever thought he could bring Ricky back and actually help him become a factor again? Not me. How about transforming Vernon Carey from bench warmer to very capable LT in one season? Seems possible to me, based on what I've seen. Saban is a winner....pure and simple. He is best coach we have had here in many years. Shula's heyday was over by the mid-80's because he had to be the GM and couldn't draft worth a da--. Jimmy Johnson was semi-retired and so full of himself, he never had a chance of winning anything meaningful and I won't even get into Wanny.

It's been 20 years since we've had this kind of coaching and leadership. You never know what may happen. I can't wait to find out.

You are right I cant garauntee anything. You act as if I want us to finish last. The only thing that I'm broadcasting is the most likely senario. I want us to win it all but I promise you it aint going to happen. Our limitations and possibilities have nothing to do with your optomism or my realism. After week 5 revisit this post if I'm wrong let me have it. It would be my honor to eat my own words. People stop comparing us to the Rams,Chargers, or any other team. The team you need to compare us against is the team we were last season. We have the same o line. Our d line will be better, and our secondary will be weaker. We will have Ricky back and with the addition of Ronnie Brown will be more formidable on offense. I SAID WE WILL BE IMPROVED. Some of you wont be satisfied unless we make the playoffs. I would image it's the same people who use the lottery as a retirment plan. Great teams aren't losely put in place by a cast of has beens. It's going to take a year or 2 for Saban to have the personel in place to carry out his plan. Right now we are transitional.

ok, I agree

....but wait, you said.. :yeahthat:

or the fact that they were 1 play from being eliminated be the Chargers the week before....OR the FACT that if the Bills didn't choke the salami week 17 against the Pittsburgh Steelers BACKUPS the Jests would have missed the playoffs completely!!

otherwise I agree. :)

Father Time bows before Curtis, and tells him that he'll just leave him alone. This division belongs to the Jets this year.

Now, as for your phins, I don't see them winning more then 5 games this year, in all honesty. I'm not talking smack here, either. Those that know me here know I don't do that. New offensive and defensive systems, aging defense, and a horrible offensive line will take care of that.

That said, I believe Saban will turn this thing around in a few years time, but it does take time.

I don't see the Jets winning the division. The Pats are still the the best team, by far. Martin is amazing, and it's crazy how time doesn't seem to catch up with him. But sooner or later it will...

A team that won 4 games last year while having the most disastrous seasons on and off the field in franchise history won't win more than 5? I don't think the SB is in the cards, but it's quite reasonable to expect 7-8 wins.

The new systems won't hurt the team. When you think about it, the old ones held them back.

Old....no......experienced ..yes.....

I Like Our Chances

Why are people up in arms with this post? He said we would be improved, winning 7-8 games, that is basically DOUBLE the amount of wins from last year. We had to trim some fat, trade Surtain, have a new coach, a lot of young players, 8 wins would be a successful step forward. The guy isnt saying he won't support the team or go to games or that he is ashamed of the team. He's just saying that the team isn't that good yet. Just honesty. Nothing overly negative or anything to get upset about.

What if the stars align and we have no major injuries? What if Gus does his impression of Rich Gannon? What if Ronnie is so good it makes everyone else better on Offense?

Ahh...who am I kidding, we will win 10 games at the most. More likely 6 to 9. But we will beat the Bills at least once IMO which is something to look forward to.

i agree 100%. i'm also a realistic fan. Some people think because Boston is back and we have Frerotte, we're going to the superbowl. I'll be happy with 7 wins.

We will be #2 in our division if not #1. All you realist out there. I am a realist to and seeing what I saw last year was a team who had no hope because our offense was Ricky Williams and he retired. We had A new promising Wide receiver in David Boston Injured in preseason. Stupid trades trying to fill holes. That now we look at and say what the hell were they thinking. And #1 & #2 reason why we sucked DW & RS. We were in every games last year except for the Jets blow out game. Hell we beat the Patsies on MNF. And this year Ricky is back Ronnie is signed, David Boston is here and ready to play for the league minimum made some changes on the o-line secondary got worse but every team loses something everyyear to gain something else. I don't know why Captain Lou you would think we are gonna be bottom feeders I look at our schedule and see us winning 10 games. Tell me why you think we wont

I think there are major holes on this team: OFFENSIVE LINE is a work in progress, QUARTERBACKs are all marginal players, RECEIVERS WHO DISSAPEAR AGAINST TOP CORNERBACKS, AGING DEFENSIVE CORE, SUSPECT SECONDArY

its gonna take a few years

I don't think it's denial. My realistic expectation of this years team is about what yours is. However, if there is a fan of any of the 32 teams that isn't thinking What If????? What if all of those question marks on this team work out???? Then I ask, what is the point of watching??????? Being realistic about everything is great but optimism is more fun.

Dude you are so wrong. Saban will make these guys play younger and make Feeley an all pro. He will make the offensive line more talented, and create a time machine so we can use the services of a non damaged goods David Boston. In all seriousness I agree with you.
