Our Denial

We will be #2 in our division if not #1. All you realist out there. I am a realist to and seeing what I saw last year was a team who had no hope because our offense was Ricky Williams and he retired. We had A new promising Wide receiver in David Boston Injured in preseason. Stupid trades trying to fill holes. That now we look at and say what the hell were they thinking. And #1 & #2 reason why we sucked DW & RS. We were in every games last year except for the Jets blow out game. Hell we beat the Patsies on MNF. And this year Ricky is back Ronnie is signed, David Boston is here and ready to play for the league minimum made some changes on the o-line secondary got worse but every team loses something everyyear to gain something else. I don't know why Captain Lou you would think we are gonna be bottom feeders I look at our schedule and see us winning 10 games. Tell me why you think we wont

It takes time.
Yeah, we beat the Patsies last year. So What???? They beat us too. So did a lot of other teams, including some that arent so good. Our line should be improved. That should be obvious though because they couldnt get worse. But they aren't going to be dominating. Houck is one of the best line coaches in the league, but he didnt produce a top offensive line in his first year at SD. Belichek is a mastermind of a head coach and Saban has been compared favorably to him, but how did Belichek's first stint as a head coach go? For that matter, how was his first year in NE?
We have some good players. We also have some backups playing as starters in key positions. We lack depth in some areas, and when the inevitable injuries come, this will hurt us. We have new systems on offense and defense which inhibits our veterans' ability to teach the rookies or newly acquired FAs since the vets are struggling to learn the new systems themselves.
Anything is possible in the NFL, but considering where we were and the hurdles we still have to cross......I too would be ecstatic if we got 8 wins this year.

Dude you are so wrong. Saban will make these guys play younger and make Feeley an all pro. He will make the offensive line more talented, and create a time machine so we can use the services of a non damaged goods David Boston. In all seriousness I agree with you.

Can we borrow that time machine and put Jim Kelly in it?

Yeah, Losman was stunning in his first preseason game. Why don't you judge the Dolphins by the same standards you judge other teams by. Some in the media think J-ville could emerge as a surprise team. Did Leftwich impress you last Saturday? Pennington is one hard hit from being lost for the season and there is no guarantee his arm strength will return to what it was (even then it was average).
If I'm a Bills fan, I'm a little concerned about Losman and even more concerned about the durability of McGahee. He's been held out of practice for "precautionary reasons".

We are frightened that Losman only had an 87 QB rating in his first pre-season game.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion. What I don't understand is you said you have been a fan for 20 years. This will be my 36th year. Surely you can remember farther back than last year? The year before last we were 10-6 hardly "bottom feeders". Last year was an anomolie for reasons we all know too well. I think a reasonable case can be made that this years team is more talented and better coached and deeper than the 2003 team. It certainly would not be headline news for the 2005 team to finish at 10-6 or better. In fact, I think it would be much more surprising for them to finish below .500 again for the first time in over 30 years.

I know we aint going 4-12. If you seriously look at last year a weigh the circumstances from last year to this year, you will find you are missing something crucially important.

And that is we will be better by far. Those other teams are highly questinable as well. Mcgahee is already hurting and Losman is just waiting to get killed running around, especially against NE and our defense not to mention jets D. I think it all comes down to coaching myself. Our talent is not old BTW, Zach still kicks ***, i dont care what anyone says. JT is not old. Seau yes, but we have young capable LB's. I think 7 or 8 wins is very doable. Ricky is a big difference from last year.

The problem is the rest of the league has progressed. I know we are only 2 years removed from 10-6. Our schedule is brutal. I mean Denver, Atlanta, Carolina, and host of others not to mention our division play. I'd like to believe we are better than we are. I just dont see it.

Denver "upgraded" their D by bringing in the entire Browns D line. They couldn't stop anyone in Cleveland last year, why should it be different in Denver? Who knows what you'll get with the Panthers? That team is up and down every year. Although I suppose this would be their up year.

Just look at how competitive the team was last year when the franchise became a laughingstock. If they could be close almost every week after all that went on last year, there is reason for optimism this year.

In Quoting the great Nick Saban.."We want everyone to hate playing us, we are going to be so physical, dominant, and rentless with our effort and the way we go about competing in the game we are going to make everyone hate playing us"- Sounds like a 12-4 season to me..We have too many hungry and talented people on this team, not to win our Division..

Hells yeah..I'm a realist too. There's no stoping us this year period..We are going to D-O-M-I-N-A-T-E.

Our personnel is in the bottom 1/3 of the league and therefore we'll struggle mightily, regardless of which division we were in. With our OL and QB, no chance I can project much beyond 6 yards per pass attempt and that's almost certain to cement our record below .500.

But before Saban took over, at this point our roster would have been in the bottom 1/4 of the league. The trend is upswing and it's finally an interesting season. Unlike recent seasons, I won't be able to call plays in advance or know precisely when the defense would start to gag. As a sports handicapper that royally blows. I have no clue what to expect regarding whether we'll fare better at home or road vs. the number, go over or under, or as a favorite or underdog. But as a Dolphin fan it's extremely intriguing and the most I've anticipated a season in years.

We were in a lot of games due to defense and we are very likely to give up a ton of deep bombs this year. I am talking about spirit killing touchdowns. That is really the worst thing about this team. I am not sure I would have let Pat Surtain go. But we have covered that.

Damn good post!

I agree 100% with your post. We will be better. But a playoff team I do not see.
Saban will be very successful and win a superbowl in Miami but it will take time
for him to draft and obtain his type of players who fit his system. I just feel bad for our aging veterans who will not be around when we do win a superbowl.
