as for the safeties, Yeremiah Bell impressed me and I think Schulters will become the 'defensive QB' back there when he fully grasps the system. Tebucky Jones is really struggling with that hamstring, but he is in a serious camp battle with Bell now for that SS spot and atm I think he (Jones) wont be starting.

I like Yeremiah too. One thing that I noticed during the game, and I have yet to watch the TIVO. Yeremiah seemed to take the wrong angle on multiple occasions, but had the closing speed to catch up to the ballcarrier. If he can work on his angles, he'd be much better.

I'm not Ozzy but a do play a former recovering alcohol/drug/bat abusing rock star on a reality TV show.

I don't even know where to begin with this secondary. Nick can not be happy building a team based on fundamentals and having one of the highest paid players (S. Madison) continually miss tackles.

I get the message here... LOL

That will show me for addressing one board member versus just asking the question of the entire community. We have some real comedians in this group :rofl3: :rofl3: :rofl3: :goof:

I do recall days in previous preseasons where there was panic about one area of the team. I am not prepared to say there is no need for concern, but maybe things are not as they seem. We shall see.

Ozzy,

What is your current assessment of the defensive backs? I am actually more concerned with that part of the team right now than the offensive line, and that is saying a lot.

I believe the recent signings of a corner and safety was just to put bodies on the field against Jacksonville, and can not be a serious look at competition. I don't like the Taylor or Buckley option right now, and I think there will be other db options when cuts begin. But this is a new system.

The Sentinel said Richard got burned frequently. I don't remember frequently. How do you appropriately assess his performance in that he participated in so little camp?

But with all the talk about corners I am actually very concerned about the safety position and someone rising to the occassion to be the defensive quarterback back there. Who is going to be that guy in your mind? Schulters? Bell? I have an idea that Jones may not make the team for some reason.

Thanks,

My thoughts are that they better create a solid pass rush or the secondary is in deep doo doo.

Howard looked like a rookie. He is getting pushed around at the line by the bigger Wr's and he is not fast enough to make up ground. He should be moved to the nickle ASAP.

Daniel's showed that he can be pretty physical, but I think it was smart to let someone else start in his very first NFL game.

Richards actually did OK if you ask me.

What some of the reporters do not realize is that sometimes, depending on the coverage, it's not always the Corners fault. They ran a few different coverages. When they blitzed a Safety they ran into problems. Relying on One slow Safety to cover a larger area is not going to cut it. When they blitz like that, they MUST get immediate penetration, or they get burned, and burned they did. Having a Safety with some speed would help them.

The Safeties were terrible. Bua was out of position way way way too much. I'm sure he got an earful while they broke down tapes in the meetings this week.

I really think they're going to try and see how Bell, and Shulters do together. Bell has good size and he is much faster than any Safety on the Roster. Shulters can hit, and would be more suited to blitz.

not ozzy...

anyway, the only thing i can say is there is a positive way of looking at it:

at least our team's biggest weakness is our coach's biggest strength

I think that some might have liked the question, and some were just having fun.

It's all good, and ask anytime. I'd like to think that when it comes to the secondary I know just a lil bit. It's my favorite position.

yup. what surprised me was that our blitzes never made a dent. although, they seemed to use the same one over the LT jon Tait who is pretty good. i think they brought the WLB and FS who i think were Pope and Bell, but im not sure

But what's funny is that Bell should be the one left back. He has good speed, and can cover more ground.

Maybe, just maybe they were working on getting everyone into everything.

yeah, i definately saw the game as them trying to feel things out even at the risk of redundancy. i got the opposite impression of the Bears, to be honest. they kind of approached the game as if it were the regular season in the way the kept the 8 man front a majority of the time.

they decided to smother AJ instead of seeing if they could accomplish the same thing in a normal defense.

so what im saying is that it seemed the Fins didnt care to adjust where the bears were trying to make mismatches
