"I think it’s safe to say that Bill Belichick will go down as the greatest NFL coach of all time." - Peyton Manning

I guess Manning doesn't remember Belicheat when he was with the Browns or Jets???

Don Shula won 347 games....that would average out to close to 10 wins a season for 35 years.

Everyone is entitled to their own view. If Belichick is the GOAT, why did he suck before getting to NE and having Brady as his QB?

Well Shula had Dan Marino as his qb and still didn't win any championships with him. Qb alone doesn't win crap. I personally agree with Peyton.
He is definitely in the discussion and the job done this season was the best among any coaches with all the injuries.
He is only missing like 5 probowlers from his team and still in AFC Championship game.

Wins don't matter. Ask the 16-0 patriots.

Playoffs and Super Bowls.

That is Peyton's way of basically giving all the credit in NE to BB rather than to Brady where it belongs.

If the QB alone doesn't win, why didn't Belichick win without Brady before coaching in New England?

Why didn't Shula win a superbowl before he came to Miami. I ask again as great as Shula was how come he didn't win with Marino. No one faults Walsh for Montana, Noll for Bradshaw, Laundry for Staubach, Lombardi for Starr. People can hate on a coach with 5 damn superbowl wins as a coordinator and coach all they want but if you penalize him for Brady then you have to penalize most other great coaches that didn't win any championships without their hall of fame qb. If qb is all you need why does Manning have only one superbowl ring, same with Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees. A qb no matter how great wins jack all by himself and anyone that thinks otherwise is living in a delusional world. Bill walsh was 8-24 before Joe montanna. Chuck Noll had a losing record before Terry Bradshaw. A qb is important. The most important player position but if coaching doesn't matter than there are in reality no great coaches just qbs that won football games.

Vince Lombardi: not a cheater
Don Shula: not a cheater
Bill Walsh: not a cheater
George Halas: not a cheater
Tom Landry: not a cheater
Joe Gibbs: not a cheater
Chuck Noll: not a cheater

Bill Belichick: cheater

The end.

People are being naïve if they think the only reason BB has won is because of cheating .
The Patriots broke a rule and were punished. Do our superbowls not count because we broke tampering rules to sign Don Shula.

I'm not really talking about things that happened 40 years ago. The NFL is different then it was back then. Dan Marino, Joe Montana and John Elway were superstar QBs when I was a kid. Why didn't Shula win with Marino? He didn't have a running game to compliment the passing. Montana had Roger Craig and Elway had Terrell Davis. These days though Tom Brady was the main component for New England winning. Peyton Manning is why Indy/Denver has been successful. Roethlisberger and Aaron Rodgers were why Pittsburgh and Green Bay succeeded.

It's a god damn shame Marino never won a Super Bowl. Whether it was no running game, bad defense, or something else..

Peyton Manning: "If I say something other than Belichick is the greatest coach ever it'll be a story so I'll say that."

the priciples of football remain the same, its a team sport and a qb no matter how great does not do it alone

Do you think BB could take a team to the SB with a QB like David Woodley? Absolutely NOT. Many of you were to young to see Woodley try to imitate an NFL QB. He was a poor man's Tim Tebow.
I will buy your silly argument when BB wins consistently with anyone other than Tom Brady. You also cannot conveniently dismiss Spygate, because Goodell destroyed all the tapes so no one will ever know the extent of the cheating. Shula won with Unitas, Morrall, Griese, Woodley/Strock and Marino. He went undefeated with an over the hill backup QB, through most of the season.
Grudgingly, I have to admit that Brady was/is a better QB than Marino. Marino was the best pure passer in NFL history, but Brady (and Manning) are better QBs (there is a difference). Marino had supreme confidence in his arm and never really became a student of the game. After 17 yrs, he still couldn't figure out a zone blitz. Marino got away with a lot of bad decisions early on, simply because he had a physically dominant arm (quick release, velocity and accuracy). There is a reason why he lasted to the end of the 1st round as there were concerns about his intelligence (low Wonderlic score). I don't put much stock in the rumors of partying and drug use.
