First, let's keep in mind that this was against the worst team in the NFL last season. That will keep things in perspective.

On Offense

QB: Henne played good, but not great. He missed too many throws. Without that big throw to Fasano, followed by that big run he had scambling, it would have been a night where he missed too many big throws. And the Dolphins would have had 10 points going into the half. But seeing Henne scramble like that showed a new style to his game. And that could be good. He scrambled and found Fasano. He had a couple of runs out of the pocket that game that were first downs. If he can do that consistently, it will only make the offense better.

QB: Moore struggled most of the night and showed that he is in no way going to take the starting job from Henne. Henne will have to lose it during the season for Moore to take over at QB.

RB: Bush looked great! He ran hard and was explosive out there. That is a great sign. He has to be the leader at RB. He can set the tone. He just can't over-extend himself and get injured. That's the key. If he gets hurt, it could spell disaster. He has to stay patient and make the most out of every gap or mistake the defense makes. I can't see Thomas being capable of leading the RBs yet.

RB: Thomas looks like he will be a nice compliment to Bush. Running behind Bush, Thomas adds a harder running style. Thomas alone looks like a rookie who is hesitating. Good defenses will kill his game if he plays like that. But behind Bush, he can come in and pick up yards, make plays, and move the chains. He looked really good as the game went on last night.

RB: Other than Bush, Thomas, and Hillard, I don't think Miami has another RB worth a roster spot.

WR:
Marshall looked pretty good. He still doesn't appear to know where to go with the ball after the catch and had a MAJOR slip of concentration when he blocked in the back on Bush's big run that was called back. He shouldn't be making bad decisions like that now as a veteran. But he catches so many passes and still looks to be able to do that again this season.

WR: Gates looks very raw, but obviously has the talent. Henne over threw him deep for a TD last night.

WR:
Hartline still looks like Miami's other starting WR outside.

WR: Bess looks like his usual self out there. That's good to see.

TE: Fasano dropped a very easy to catch pass last night. That was awful. But he rebounded with that deep pass for almost 40 yards. They need to make sure to keep going to him.

OL: Murtha looked awful. Really bad. Where is his head at? Long needs to get healthy as soon as possible.

OL: Pouncey looked really good out there. I was impressed.

OL: As a whole, they did a good job run blocking. Not bad in pass blocking either. There were too many penalties though, especially on Murtha.

On Defense

DL: As a whole, the D-line played well. Nobody stood out though. They just played well. They weren't getting to the QB, but they stuffed Carolina's run game.

LB: Burnett gets a game ball for sure. That guy played great! He looks like a big upgrade to Crowder. We'll see if he can keep it up. He had several key stops on 3rd down. He was around the ball a lot.

LB: Dansby looked pretty good. Maybe a little inconsistent though.

DB: The secondary as a whole played well. Nothing really stood out again like the D-line. They just played a good game as a unit, which is awesome.

Overall Conclusion

The defense played a great game. They had 3 and outs most of the night. They were stingy and didn't allow the Panthers' offense to get anything going. They played solid team defense and looked like they have what they need to be a top defense in the NFL again this season.

The defense gave the offense plenty of opportunities to score points. They kept it so that the Panthers never had a chance to come alive on offense. Special teams did their job as well to keep the Panthers from getting any big plays to jump start something. All of that made it easier for the offense.

The blocking on offense looked better this game. They need to clean up the penalties. If anything, the penalties hurt them the most. After that, Henne missed too many throws early in the game. There were deep ball that could have been catchable that Henne overthrew. I think he is still afraid to put the ball in a place where the WR has a chance to catch it in fear that the DB will also have a chance to pick it off. Sometimes the WR only has a step or two on the DB. You still have to put the ball in a catchable location.

But Henne did make some good throws out there and didn't turn it over. He also scrambled more. If he keeps that style of play consistently up, it could help the offense get over some rough spots. No one ever thought he could scramble, but he showed he could last night. We'll see if that was just a fluke or if that is something he can do consistently.

Bush looked great at RB and showed that he is easily the leader back there. Thomas needs Bush to have a good game and vice versa. They look like another duo back there with Bush being the clear leader and Thomas being the rookie with lots of potential. They only thing that can ruin that is by Bush taking on too much and getting injured. He needs to play smarter this season and take whatever he gets and leave whatever isn't there. Trying to do too much could get Bush hurt and then we could be in real trouble back there.

Miami beat the Panthers convincingly. The Panthers were the worst team in the NFL last season. Miami didn't stoop in their level of play, which was great. The big test will come opening night against the Patriots. The Patriots are a dynasty team over the last decade. They have been winning all the big games and know how to get it done. They will likely be contenders again. Dominating the Panthers is one thing, but holding your own against the Patriots is another. They have two more games to sharpen things up. GO DOLPHINS!

The post is to long just say Henne played like a rookie and not a QB with over 30 games under his belt. Bush ran like the police was after him and TE play will have to be upgraded. The line sucks because when long returns who knows what the shuffle will be. Beside that the Panthers were who we thought they were.

It's not too long. It's a good read.

I'm not sure how you twisted around the time and effort he took to make this thread, into a henne sucks thread.

I agree, good read. Good game, but still a ways to go as a team. It's nice to see the team play as a unit and not as a bunch of individuals. They did a good job of not playing down to the competition (which, as we all know, has been one of this team's flaws). Henne was better than his average self, and the team rallied behind him. He certainly did not play like a rookie; he was poised and confident (other than the deep balls and a couple of misreads). Just a random side note about Gates. On the ball that was overthrown by Moore; he did not seem like he wants to extend for the ball. He dropped his hands when the ball seemed too far for him to grab instead of making an attempt on the ball. I'm glad he doesn' t want to risk injury, but that ball was attemptable. He certainly is still raw and with more time he will hopefully be a threat. Henne has to hit him in stride and give him the confidence and we'll be in better shape. It's good to see that he at least helps extend defenses, opening up the check down to Bush.

Good post sir. Go Phins!
