Part of the problem is posters here setting a 11-5+ expectation EVERY season

The biggest problem is before every season, even when we have been REALLY bad, a lot of you see the team as playoff caliber. I remember going into the 1-15 season, the majority of posters had us a 7-8 win team. Now, it's different to WANT better play, but you should know what we have and know what to EXPECT. If you're involved enough to make a user name and post on this message board then you're involved enough to know a really good team from what that is average. But every season people on this forum come in with the rosiest view of this team and that is part of what is setting up all these melt downs mid season.

Set the correct expectation for yourself and you wouldn't be dying after every loss. We are a team that is still under construction but we are seeing improvement. I think Tannehill has gotten better this season and so has our offense. Other than the game against New Orleans, we have done good things even in our losses... But our team needs work across the board. Hopefully we can continue to get better and hopefully the season ends up better than the way it has been going this month.

All I'm saying is you don't set such unreasonably lofty expectations for this season then you'll see that we're not THAT far away from being a contender. I know we're all anxious to finally see some winning football after a decade of ****, but wanting and getting are two different things.

I came into the season thinking we were going to go 9-7 and I'm still hoping we can finish that well (or ****, maybe better). I think we're still in a position to end up with that record... set the correct expectation.

That was the most preposterous combination of drivel I have ever read.

So you're telling me that because the fans here expect an 11-5 season every year the players respond by playing like losers? So we are a conduit of the type of play we're getting from the team!? We're 50% responsible for all the losing???!!!:iwantmore::rotfl1::lol2:

I'm not blaming the fans at all. The team went 7-9 last season and if we go 9-7 this season then technically we have seen improvement. I'm trying to convey that some of you have an unreasonable or unreal expectation for this team.

I get it, we all want them to be better, we've been patient through all the **** seasons. But just cause we want them to be better doesn't mean they actually will be better. Then downgraded overall in the LB unit and it shows. They overpaid for Reshad Jones and it's showing. They didn't do enough to take care of the OL and it's showing big time. These are just the black and white FACTS of the situation. I want them to be 11-5 to but I was EXPECTING 8-8 or 9-7 because I knew we were a flawed team.

Just cause we went 3-0 to start doesn't mean our flaws went away. In our 3 "close" losses we did good and bad things. In the Pats game we played great in the first half but the flaws came out in the 2nd half. In the Bills and Ravens games our OL flaw showed in a big way.

We're a flawed team that is improving... if you don't expect 11-5 from THIS team then you wouldn't be having a melt down every week. Doesn't mean I'm not frustrated with the team, I just see them for what they are.

I don't think part of our TEAM'S problem is the fans. I think part of the problem for ALL OF YOU in accepting our mediocrity is the high expectations you are setting for this average team.

The team is average and we knew that coming into the season... but you're all getting frustrated wondering whats going wrong when the reality is our talent level is just not high enough to be consistently beat the good teams in the NFL.

Guess my first post wasn't very clear.

I keep seeing posts about how fans "expect" a quality product...do you even know what the word "expect" means? We're talking about PREDICTING the team to go 11-5 before the season, based on the talent at hand. That, my friends, is delusional.

So fans should accept mediocrity as the norm? Then I guess Mr. Ross should accept empty seats and declining merchandise sales.

Well I think the OP's point is we always seem to overrate the team because we are fans. I mean I caught flack because I said Lamar Miller rushing for 1500 yards was a beyond silly prediction.
I mean for some fans predicting the second best rushing season in the history of the fins is positive thinking. For others they just cant see the logic in a prediction like this based on almost no evidence.

I'm guessing a lot of people missed the very first word of the title of this thread that said "Part." Nowhere does it say ALL of the problem. Eh...but carry on. I get the point the OP was trying to make but it could've been worded better.

Read a certain combination of keywords on a title and people get so sensitive.

It's really not too bad here, compared to other sites. I'd say there is a greater tendency to apologize for every move the franchise makes than to predict wildly optimistic win totals. Many posters here are admirably able to separate the two.

Not many mediocre teams open 3-0. When we started 3-0, lots of posters wanted to believe it meant we were headed to 11-5 or even 12-4. That's the only recent time I've been annoyed at the false hope. Nothing in our roster or stats suggested 11-5. I'm worried about surpassing 6.5.
