Pass Interference or No Pass Interference, that is the Question

grudens sitting in a booth looking at a tv monitor just like most of us...i think the positioning of the official was the problem...but i also agree with people who say certain guys get away with more than others...and lets face it i'm sure nfl officials like revis more than they do marshall as a person...no doubt in my mind on that one...

but also when you have a guy who every week locks up the opposition to the tune of like 3 catches for 36 yards in 5 games period period you are gonna give the guy the benefit of the doubt more than not...revis has earned his reputation...he's fantastic...

I'm starting to understand why he literally "locks up" opposing WRs

absolutely, positively, NO interference ... and no illegal contact as some people are saying.

the more I look at it the more i take the word "stumble" out of it.
just watch the play ... Marshall is not stumbling ... hes going full speed and clearly dips his shoulder into Revis in an attempt to knock him off balance and run past him as Revis was backpedaling. didn't work ... Revis absorbed the hit and threw him out of the way and got the INT.

that's not a penalty ... if you don't want the DB to put his hands on you then don't drive your shoulder into his chest. Marshall is a physical receiver, and that's how he plays ... fine.
but then you can't cry about contact ... especially when YOU caused it!

It was a horrible no call. It is not debatable. I don't care if the refs had a good view of it or not. It does not change the fact that a penalty should have been called. Marshall is trying to cut inside, and Revis grabs and pulls his jersey causing Marshall to stumble.

I knew it when it happened.

That was very obvious pass interference. No way no how are you allowed to grab a guys jersey...of course, Revis does it on every single play....

When they showed it from where the back-judge was standing, it was much more blatant, and of course Gruden talked about it extensively as being PI when it happened.

Go study any clip of Revis. THIS is why he is considered so physical. He does indeed grab jersey on every single play.

I was actually surprised to see no-calls when he was just as blatantly doing it to Welker and Branch a few weeks ago.

I don't think anyone is really crying about the call. I think the thread is just about whether is was Pass Interference or not. It definately should've been illegal contact. Since the emphasis that was placed on calling it 4 or 5 years ago it is a really common flag and it should've been thrown on that play. I do agree with you that it was probably tough to see. I didn't even really notice it until the replay. At the same time though the camera was on Matt Moore until he threw the ball, the ref had a better view than most of the T.V. watchers out there since he was on the field at the time.

The biggest problem with that play is I don't understand why Matt Moore threw the ball. Illegal contact should be called even if you don't throw it to the fouled reciever unlike Pass Interference. Terrible decision by Moore.

Because Moore was taught to do the same thing that Henne was taught to do. On 2/3 plays in the red zone, we will throw it to Marshall, regardless of if it's worked at all the entire year.

Looks to me more like Marshall ran right into Revis...no PI...good "no-call"

Two points here.

The 2nd one first.

Matt Moore was going to throw to B Marshall, that was the play call. As in he has been told not to even consider anyone else, throw the ball at B Marshall.

1st point, that could almost be pass interference(they are suppose to review all touchdowns plays) by Revis. But what it really was was a self trip and fall by B Marshal. His right foot comes up and hits his left lower leg and he starts to fall forward. If you do not see this part you are almost thinking he is pushing against Revis and that is when Revis grabs him partly to keep himself from falling back.

Revis did not easily tug a 240 pound man past him and take the ball way. Chances are Marshall was going to fall anyway but Revis showed a little Aikido and got past Marshall to the ball. I bet that ball was being thrown to a spot and Marshall never made it there. But Revis did.

That's how I see it also. It looks to me like Marshall initiates the contact...and Revis gives him a little pull in the same direction as his momentum and then Marshall loses balance. Yeah, there was a little pull by Revis...but Marshall started it....and was Revis' *****...

Some of you guys really crack me up. So Revis grabbed his jersey, huh?
Did it happen before or after Marshall lowered his right shoulder and drove it into him?
Marshall knew exactly what he was doing ... there's a reason why he catches 100 passes a year. He was trying to knock Revis off balance so he could make a quick cut and get some seperation at the goal line. He's a physical receiver, and that's part of his game.

This "grabbing the jersey" argument is full of holes. Marshall wasn't trying to run away from Revis ... he was trying to run through him. There was no stumble. All you have to do is look at the play to see that Revis was clearly backpedaling away from Marshall, when Marshall intentionally plowed into him. That's not quite the same thing as grabbing someone's jersey to prevent them from creating seperation, is it?

Watch the video, and look at the pictures. I don't care how you want to spin it, a penalty should have been called. Even if you want to argue that Marshall ran into Revis, Revis still grabbed his jersey and pulled as seen when Marshall's jersey is almost on his head. That is a penalty. If you want to call one on Marshall and Revis as well fine, it would have been a replay of the down, and not 7 points for the Jets. Terrible no call.

it was not pass interference because marshall plays for a small market team. had revis done that to wes welker the play comes back
