Pass rushers eager to reach Frerotte

I'm sure they'll get to Gus a few times. Our OL isn't quite where it needs to be yet, but that will come as the season moves forward. Don't worry though, I'm sure we'll get to Plummer as well....

The Broncos defense is solid, and so is ours. It should be a very fun match-up to watch unfold Sunday. I think the Broncos will come out strong, and then fade as the humidity hits them at halftime. Then we make our move, and take control late in the game. Phinz win a close one.....

PHINZ RULE!!!!

What ??? Have you been watching the same Gus as I have this preseason ?? If the line gives any QB time, we'll do ok...but that's a big if...

Gus isn't a runner, but he can side step the rush.

Yeah!!! Lets go Gus!!!

Matchup Info

vs Denver Broncos (Tough matchup) - Gus Frerotte and A.J. Feeley have been disappointments so far - Feeley so much so that he is now 3rd string behind Sage Rosenfels. Frankly, Frerotte has been so erratic that you'll want to think twice before starting Chris Chambers or Randy McMichael this week - give yourself a week to evaluate the situation in Miami at QB. Can Frerotte deliver the ball on target vs. a full speed NFL defense? We'll find out on Sunday. Denver fielded a top-ten secondary last year, averaging 184.2 passing yards allowed per game (6th in the NFL) while surrendering only 17 passing scores over 16 games. They now have John Lynch to police the middle of the field, which will make some AFC West players ache. However, Peyton Manning still tore them up for 18/25 for 206 yards and 2 TDs in part of a game during the week 3 preseason game - the Broncos are still a work in progress in this phase of the game.

How many times are you going to say the same thing?

Gus isn't a statue in the mold of a Kurt Warner, Brett Favre, or Drew Bledsoe... I'd say he's similar to a Tom Brady or Brian Griese. He can avoid the pass rush a little, but he isn't going to turn it up and pick up 5 yards while avoiding the pass rush either.

If anybody's interested I'll post the rest of the match-ups. Seeing how some of you feel that Ronnie will run all over Denver, I'll post that match up as well.

Matchup Info vs Denver Broncos (Tough matchup) - Miami will rely on Ronnie Brown to start the season. Vs. Tampa Bay during the preseason week 3 tune-up, Brown managed 6/20/0 rushing (no receptions). He also scraped together 5/25/0 (1/5/0 receiving) against the Falcons in the preseason finale on 9/1/05. As you can see, we don't really know how productive Brown may be given a full load during a game. This week, we'll find out. The offensive line has struggled and that's not what a rookie RB needs.

Matchup Info

at Miami Dolphins (Great matchup) - Mike Anderson has earned his starting spot. With his 13/159/2 rushing (2/22/0 receiving) effort vs. division rival Indianapolis, he cemented his hold on the coveted "Bronco Back" job. He looks ready to roll but understand that Tatum Bell is hovering should something happen to Anderson. Miami's run D was porous during 2004, giving up an average of 143.9 rushing yards per game (31st in the NFL) and 12 rushing TDs over 16 games. During the week 3 preseason game, Tampa's Cadillac Williams slashed them for 5/28/0 in a short appearance, and the Bucs totaled 29/125/1 during the game -- clearly, Miami still has a long way to go in this phase of the game.

Matchup Info

at Miami Dolphins (Neutral matchup) - Jake Plummer and Ashley Lelie are on the same page. During their preseason week 3 grudge match vs. Indianapolis, Lelie snagged 5/104/1, including a beautiful 40 yard TD reception. With fellow WR Rob Smith and TEs Stephen Alexander and Jeb Putzier also in the mix, Plummer has multiple weapons to throw at - this team looks scary good coming into regular season. Miami ranked second in the NFL last season, allowing 162 passing yards per game -- but they have reshuffled their defense coming into 2005. Patrick Surtain is knocking people silly for K.C. this year, and his anticipated replacement Will Poole is on the PUP list to start the season. The new cast performed well during week 3 of the pre-season, holding Tampa to 16/28 for 171 yards, 0 TDs and 1 interception - the Dolphins may be picking up 2005 where they left off.

Only one problem with all that matchup info. It was the PRESEASON, we all know that teams don't show everything in the preseason. They play basic football. Using preseason stats/info to back up a team for the regular season doesn't work.
