Report: Philbin 'definitely safe' as Fins HC

8351-1.jpg

The Miami Herald reports Joe Philbin is "definitely safe" as Dolphins head coach.

Owner Stephen Ross forced Philbin to fire OC Mike Sherman on Monday, but Philbin will return for his third season on the job. Per the Herald's Armando Salguero, GM Jeff Ireland's job security "has yet to be cemented by the team." Philbin's records through two years are 7-9 and 8-8. There is some feeling the Dolphins will pursue Packers QBs coach Ben McAdoo to replace Sherman.

What the hotdog is Ross waiting for with Ireland???

I don't know how JP can be considered safe if J Ireland is fired and a new GM comes.

I mean, really? How much freaking analysis needs to go into this thing? 6 years and no more than 8 wins since the Pennington years. How many impact players drafted or acquired by Ireland? Status Quo is NOT good enough. Especially now with the SCHISM yet again with the HC, just can the guy already!

uh, SKAPE? are you talking about the same pennington who in his first year was 0-4 untill the wildcat [that featured not him, but ronnie brown] saved the season?

the same pennington who was 0-4 to start the year again after the wildcat was figured out by the other nfl teams and it was back to just him [and mercifully having his shredded, should have been retired 3 years previous shoulder take its last snap] and a regular nfl offense?

it bewilders me how pennington has become this dolphins hero over the last 5 years. he accomplished NOTHING!!

Jets did this. Panthers did this. Both teams improved this year.

The idea that you can't bring in a new GM while keeping your old coach is just something floated by people who really want Philbin gone (I don't blame them) and people trying to save Ireland's skin (I do blame them).

Chris Mortensen said on ESPN that Ireland's job is still not safe and more coaches are probably getting fired.

Brian Gaines to GM. He has been around JP and will be familiar with what can be done going into '14

I agree that he needs to be cut, but the problem is his replacement. and finding a guy that can come in and get on the same page with the rest of the staff, utilize the better players on our team, and continue to find guys that'll excel in our system (and OC is still up in the air). The hardest part will be finding a GM that is credible & will accept Philbin as a head coach. which is most likely impossible.

I'm not sure Philbin is the right guy fr the job but I'd have to be blind not to see that Ireland is NOT the guy to lead this team. Amazing they're waiting this long. Just like on draft day....we wait and wait and at last, draft day is here.....now we wait and wait till we're on the clock......we're happy this guy and that guy is still on the board and we know for sure we're taking one of them and then......we all say WHAT? WHO? Are you kidding me? and then we realize that hey, Ireland is doing the drafting so why are we surprise? Well, now we wait and wait and WHAT? But of course Ross is making the decisions so why are we surprise?

Ozzy rules!!
