uh, SKAPE? are you talking about the same pennington who in his first year was 0-4 untill the wildcat [that featured not him, but ronnie brown] saved the season?
the same pennington who was 0-4 to start the year again after the wildcat was figured out by the other nfl teams and it was back to just him [and mercifully having his shredded, should have been retired 3 years previous shoulder take its last snap] and a regular nfl offense?
it bewilders me how pennington has become this dolphins hero over the last 5 years. he accomplished NOTHING!!
What are you talking about? Nothing based on reality. Pennington protected the ball and had a masterful season. His interception rate was lower than Marino ever managed during his career. Pennington had 7.7 yards per attempt and 7.8 adjusted yards per attempt. Those were superior numbers in both categories than anything Marino managed over a full year after his second season in the league. He was slightly better in the season that was cut short by injury -- 1993 -- but undoubtedly those numbers would have declined if he'd finished the season.
I'm not comparing Pennington to Marino but it's ridiculous to pretend we did not benefit immensely from Pennington's level of play that season. For one thing, we weren't 0-4 before the wildcat debuted at New England. That was the third game of the season.
If Tannehill ever manages 7.7 yards per attempt and 7.8 adjusted yards per attempt over the course of a full season, we won't have to worry about the threads debating his level. Or a playoff berth.
