Per Roto: JP safe Ireland still on the rock Source Herald

uh, SKAPE? are you talking about the same pennington who in his first year was 0-4 untill the wildcat [that featured not him, but ronnie brown] saved the season?

the same pennington who was 0-4 to start the year again after the wildcat was figured out by the other nfl teams and it was back to just him [and mercifully having his shredded, should have been retired 3 years previous shoulder take its last snap] and a regular nfl offense?

it bewilders me how pennington has become this dolphins hero over the last 5 years. he accomplished NOTHING!!

What are you talking about? Nothing based on reality. Pennington protected the ball and had a masterful season. His interception rate was lower than Marino ever managed during his career. Pennington had 7.7 yards per attempt and 7.8 adjusted yards per attempt. Those were superior numbers in both categories than anything Marino managed over a full year after his second season in the league. He was slightly better in the season that was cut short by injury -- 1993 -- but undoubtedly those numbers would have declined if he'd finished the season.

I'm not comparing Pennington to Marino but it's ridiculous to pretend we did not benefit immensely from Pennington's level of play that season. For one thing, we weren't 0-4 before the wildcat debuted at New England. That was the third game of the season.

If Tannehill ever manages 7.7 yards per attempt and 7.8 adjusted yards per attempt over the course of a full season, we won't have to worry about the threads debating his level. Or a playoff berth.

If I had my way, I'd wipe the slate clean and finally rid ourselves of this stench... I really can't wait until we distance ourselves entirely from the remnants of the Parcells Dolphins.

That would be a mistake. You'd basically be replacing Jeff Ireland with Jeff Ireland, Jr.

You don't know that. To assume that a subordinate shares the values, philosophies, and competence of his superior is a complete fallacy.

We also know that Gaine is actually liked by people around the league and around the team. Everyone despises Jeff Ireland.

I'm not saying Brian Gaine is going to save the franchise or anything, but firing Jeff and promoting Gaine would at least be a good first step.

Agreed.

Ireland still needs to go. Hire a new GM, have him get boss-ass players on the team and if Philbin can't succeed then can his ass next year.

For what it's worth my contacts in the league really like Brian Gaine... includes the opinion of a potential new HC this off-season and a college scouting director for a playoff team..

Two more firings I want to see is Ireland and Turner. Everyone else can stay put for 1 more year.

His name was discussed last offseason by teams searching for GM's. IMO he will leave soon if Ross doesn't promote him to GM .... which means getting rid of JI

Well when Tannehill is in his 8th year and plays a last place schedule...against a bunch of have nots. Then I would expect him to put up some good numbers. What you Pennington fluff boys gloss over is, the inability of Pennington to matter that season when he played a TOP 10 defense. That playoff game was something to watch. The defense in spite of Pennington kept MIA in that game.

You Pennington people love your stats. But he was sub par against TOP defenses his whole career. Dinking and dunking might be something you and others can appreciate. But frankly, I'm glad he is back in NY tutoring Sanchez or Geno, whomever the flavor of the month is.

He interviewed for Rams GM job in 2012 and Jets in 2013

I remember Pennington being CLUTCH at the end of games that year and he had the highest passer rating for a Dolphins QB since 1984...

Report: Philbin 'definitely safe' as Fins HC

8351-1.jpg

The Miami Herald reports Joe Philbin is "definitely safe" as Dolphins head coach.

Owner Stephen Ross forced Philbin to fire OC Mike Sherman on Monday, but Philbin will return for his third season on the job. Per the Herald's Armando Salguero, GM Jeff Ireland's job security "has yet to be cemented by the team." Philbin's records through two years are 7-9 and 8-8. There is some feeling the Dolphins will pursue Packers QBs coach Ben McAdoo to replace Sherman.

Ben McAdoo?

Have we learned nothing from al the rookie coaches on staff?

Apparently not.......:hsmash:

No offense to you, because what you say has been reported from many sources, but nobody here takes 'contacts in the league' seriously. Just saying.

I can understand that, but mine are very real and I'm not saying this to make me sound cool haha
