Meanwhile, you seem to have the old logo in your avatar.
The new logo wouldn't work in your avatar, just like it doesn't work in so many applications. It would be staring blankly into space instead of enjoying the great view of Pamela and Heather's chests.

There are a handful of NFL franchises whose logo stands above the rest, whether we like it or want to acknowledge it. If Dallas or Green Bay or Pittsburgh or Chicago or the Chiefs or the Colts tried to buckle to Nike and change their logos, there would be uproar and outrage and disbelief. Those are classic simple designs, ideal for a logo as SkapePhin pointed out. Unfortunately a dolphin doesn't lend itself to such simplicity. IMO the early designer in the mid '60s did very well with what he had to work with. The curvature of the dolphin toward the front of the helmet was ideal. The size was ideal. The logo looked good regardless of where you placed it. As a kid I never heard any complaints. We were proud of our logo. Not until 10 or 15 years ago did I hear murmurs, people nitpicking the minor aspects like the sun or the helmet with the M. I never even looked at those things. The overall presentation was very good and that's what matters.
Besides, there's so much danger if not certainty that the modern designers will screw it up. And that's what happened. The straight line shape doesn't work. From a distance it looks like a spear or spit of toothpaste. There's a reason virtually every logo conforms to the shape of the helmet. Mike Dee didn't know or didn't care. I bet on didn't know. He's exactly the type who would overlook something basic like that. So our logo arches toward the sky.
It's comical that an apologist thread is begging us to accept and appreciate the logo, based on how it looks when "positioned properly." Wonderful, we're relying on another adjustment. If they nailed the change we wouldn't need adjustments and there wouldn't be defensive threads like this, telling people how to think. I'm one of the ones who doesn't appreciate the new logo and certainly will never buy anything sporting that logo. When you make a change for the sake of change alone you are risking varied opinions. I've made my choice, just like I've handicapped the stadium and our decision to patch it.
Unfortunately the Dolphins fall just below the level of franchise that has been around for many decades with a beloved simple logo that basically can't be changed. The 49ers fall into that category also. They tried to butcher the logo more than 20 years ago. The outcry was loud enough that the franchise was embarrassed and quickly retreated. I'm sure the same thing would have happened if the Dolphins had unveiled this logo in the early '90s. By 20 years later the young crowd had exponentially greater influence, and we've seen so many bizarre logo and uniform changes that have somehow been accepted. The timing allowed a poor logo and we found one. Talk about dreadful timing. If we started the process from scratch right now with Mike Dee gone I'd like to bet the final product would have been different and at least somewhat superior.
