has enough impact to set the tone for the rest of the year BUT for the first time I think this is about as much of a "must win" game as you can get. No way that Ross, unless he is nothing but rhetoric, can take another loss in front of what little home crowd we have, especially in a similar fashion. I think if Miami were to get blown out at home again, it would be the last nail in the coffin for the current regime. Sure there is a metric crap ton of football left but we all know the playoff probability of teams starting 0-2. Not only that but that would be 2 losses in the AFC which really puts a damper on the tie breaking rules come the last few weeks of the season. Given our schedule, I think it could be the catalyst for a 5-11 season and finger pointing in the locker room and worse. So far Marshall has "put up" with a struggling young qb and 2 OC's since being here. Last year his frustration was evident on the field and regardless of the money, losing is often a huge catalyst for players with a hazy past to revert back to their disruptive ways. I just don't think that 7-10 catches for 150 yards is enough to keep Marshall happy when the "L's" are accumulating.

I also see this game a pivotal turning point potentially in the career of Chad Henne and his future in Miami. I know many of you are saying that it isn't Chad's fault for the New England debacle. Very true however, if Miami was to implode the F.O. and get a new coach, more than likely Henne once again will get the **** end of the stick and will not be here next year. For many that is what they wanted. Personally, another 3 years of rebuilding will suck and is just a continuation of the status quo since Wanny ran the team into the ground.

TS and JI wanted to prove this year that they could step out of the shadow of man boobs parcells and start to turn this team around. I don't care how much of a nice guy Sparano is and supposedly how much the players like to play for him. If they truly did, they would rally around their coach and his principles. Well this is your shot guys. I have listened to the media bad mouth this team all week on TV and Sirius but in retrospect much of what they are saying isn't all that unfounded. Even the question of the Miami fan base was raised. If you want to fix what ills the dolphins, it is time to go and give a reason for the season ticket holders to return to Joe Robbie Stadium.

Put up or shut up guys. This is your shot.

Disclaimer:

This isn't a tinfoil hat thread but rather another big time fan, such as many of you, that has seen Miami revel in lombardi mediocrity since I became a fan in the early 80's. As a fan, you can only be kicked so many times before apathy starts to set in.

Team went 1-7 at home last year. 0-1 this year. 2 wins in the last 16 or something like that. Bottom line, that is pathetic and must change, starting tomorrow.

I could honestly see Ross lobbying to move the franchise to L.A. if we have another losing season this year. He has no loyalty to the Miami area.

Indeed. People gotta realize that moving the Dolphins away from Miami would be like moving the Steelers away from Pit, the Cowboys away from Dallas, and the like. History and connection to their respective cities is just too deep.

I bet the ones that think it would be possible, or wouldn't care too much, are newer fans to the team (under 5-10 years of fandom).

Jaguars would be the first to go...then Tampa. Jags have worse problems selling tickets, and their owner has been tinkering the idea of moving it for years now. Most people in Jax hear the rumors so much, if the Jags left town, no one would be shocked.

Miami ain't moving to LA, or anywhere else for that matter (nor should they)....can't see it happening.

gotta disagree with the OP.

Going 0-2 isnt the end of the world, and a blow out wouldn't mean the end of TS or JI. It wont be an ideal start, agreed, but to say that it has enough to set the tone for the rest of the year is rubbish. To think that a season may be gone after 2 weeks really shows the lack of faith that you have in this team. Yeah there were negatives, plenty defensively, but the 1st week throughout the league showed that the long off season really played havoc with the defences on all teams, not just us.

Marshall was targeted about 14 times last week, and dragged in 7 or 8. A few were overthrown, a few were from BM not getting in position, but he was targeted enough so i think that would keep him happy enough. Should he drag in 2 or 3 extras catches then I dont think he would complain too much.

If Henne continues to play like last week, and really there is no reason why he cant end up a top 10 league qb, then his position will be safe. He has a new OC & that really opened up the play book. And props to Daboll for that (Funny how I didnt see a positive post on Daboll having an impressive 1st up week). last week, we had zero pound running game, with Thomas out the running game suffered. With both Clay & Thomas back, hopefully we may be a bit of a force running the ball again.

The biggest issue obviously is defence this week. If they can step up, then we can go 1-1, and that wouldnt be all that bad.

The season will not be lost until we have 8 losses. If we start out 0-7 and win 9 straight and reach the playoffs, it is still the same as, for example, winning 2 - losing 4- winning 3 - losing 1 - winning 2 - losing 2 - winning 2 = 9-7
Once you reach 8 losses, a team is usually mathematically out of it.
Right now the team needs to do everything it can do to win 1 game at a time and start putting a string of victories together.

It would definitely be a huge blow but not insurmountable. Losing to 2 AFC teams in a row will not play out favorably near the end of the season with so many good teams in our conference. I view this game as close to a must win as you can get. We may need to enlist grievance counselors to talk people off of ledges should we fall 0-2 though

How does that make any sense? You think people in LA are going to be more willing to pay for a losing product than miami fans? Or do you think just moving to LA will win us more games for some reason?

1. Dolphins aren't moving.
2. I think the guy with the most job security might be Henne. If he continues to play near the level he played against the Pats I don't see Ross letting anyone dump him. Ross has said before he likes Henne and a good year all but keeps him on the roster. Actually I am more concerned about changing OC's again because that seems to be the biggest issue for many young QBs. I hope worst case scenario looks like this. Sparano fired, and maybe Ireland, but cordinators stay on board.
3. You are definately right about going 0-2. Team will be put in a bad place in the division, conference, and the pressure will really be on. They will either have to press to get back in a good spot (which usually doesn't work great), or just implode. This game is huge and if we do win it will reinforce a lot of what this offseason has been about. If not too many questions for why this regime can't figure it out.

A loss would bury us but I think we finally win against Houston. 2 losses at home to start a season would be nearly impossible to over come in route to making the playoffs.

History has told us that most new coaches would rather draft their own qb of the future. Henne, while it appears he may be turning the page under Daboll, he would be in his 5th year and baring a stellar season by him, he has more than likely outlived his welcome as a starter for the dolphins. It's just the way it goes. Ross will hire the guy with the greatest vision for the team. If Henne disnt included in that vision, he will be gone. It isn't like he was a top 3 pick.

Bad thing with that is do we want a QB of the "future" that possibly doesn't pan out either? Outside of Luck the other options are quite a crap shot too. I really don't want to see us go through another 2-3 year QB mature process when this team is getting close to being talented enough on defense. The whole problem with going another direction is the blow it up and do it may way plan. This team needs stability at this point. If a coaching change is made the roster should only be tweeked not torn down. Bad teams stay bad because they lose direction after staff changes. Hopefully Ross is smart enough to realize there are a lot of pieces here to be added to.

He grew up down here, if any "flawda" team is moving to LA it would be the Jaguars. Miami is a trademark franchise and your crazy if you think their going anywhere...
hit it right on the head.

the fact that people even think their is a remote possibility that the miami dolphins are moving to los angeles, or anywhere is a joke.

i dont care what reasons people give, we are not moving. yes, i understand the past decade we have not exactly been lighting it up, but we are one of the more valuable franchises in the nfl, we have lots of history, and i dont see anyway the miami dolphins are moved to los angeles.
