Phillip Livas = we need someone to give us a spark and some hope in the return game and field postition. We had many oppurtunities in the return game and were totally ineffective at best, and we couldn't even get past the 20 on Kick offs. Carrying a great return man is better use of roster spot than extra linemen, WRs, and TEs. Sign him now! Will Allen = we really need him. Nolan Carol and Benny Sapp get burned too many times.Ricky Williams (or Ronnie Brown) = I knew it was a big mistake to rely on Bush and Thomas to stay healthy and produce without having another proven RB for insurance. I thought running the ball was supposed to be our strength. Now we are desperately looking for any RB that might be available or even retired acorns.I still don't understand what Hilliard brings to this team, besides special teams. Probably Polite could have got the 1/2 yard on the goal line last nite. These are just a few...I'm not even going to go into the offensive line, etc.. Any others?Any other opinions.

I have to agree with all 3 of these players. Bess is not a good returner at all, hes a great WR but he cant get anything on returns. I hope we some how get Gates to return more kicks his speed is killer, but Bess is just slow. Allen is a vet and at this point Nollan Carrol is only getting blow out every play, so maybe its time to bring him back. As for the RB position, I knew this would happen as well, we need a vet like Ricky to keep around and make sure the rookie learns the system...Bush is great but if he goes down we are litterally screwed!! I dont get how some teams can have 3 stud RBs and we cant even find 1...

Agrees. Yeah, cutting above average seasoned vets like Will and Polite was really a head scratcher, especially after watching the debacle last night. They would have had impact in that game.

But it is what it is,...we have to deal w/ some questionable decisions by a questionable front office, at least until the house is cleaned. The good news is their tenure won't be permanent.

Apart from Livas making one good play, the dude didn't do anything.

Of those, I agree with Ricky or Ronnie. We needed to keep one of those guys. Livas was a flash in the pan and didnt do anything other than one play. We won't regret that. Some added depth at DB would have been nice.

Lex Hilliard got the tough 1 on the 4th and 1...don't ask me why we didn't call his number at the goal line. Polite wasn't getting the job done in the preseason. He was stuffed more often than he succeeded. And we have Larry Johnson...why not give him a shot to try and power it in?

Hind sight is 20/20. We can second guess all these decisions all season long...won't help what happened yesterday. All we can do is hope the front office checks their egos and does the right thing going forward. Get some help for this team. There are a lot of veteran free agents that weren't signed because clubs didn't want to guarantee their contracts for the year...time to do some shopping.

Cutting Polite wasn't a mistake. Lex Hilliard could've gotten that half yard just as easy as Polite, problem was they didn't even try it. Hilliard had already converted a key short yardage situation early in the game lined up offset as the fullback. Except he didn't just fall forward for a half yard like Polite does, he actually kept his legs pumping and squirted through for about a 2 or 3 yard gain.

Using Reggie Bush, a guy who has never rushed for more than 600 yards in season, as your feature back. Foolishness. These guys think their smarter than Sean Payton? Should've signed Ahmad Bradshaw.

Maybe so, but the coaches didn't have confidence that we could run 1/2 yard so we try a low percentage pass that sealed the loss. This could be a long season. If we end up underachieving this season, hopefully we at least get to lose Sporano/Ireland; otherwise, its a lose-lose deal.

Everyone criticized Sean Payton for running on 4th and 1 at the goal line vs the Packers. Everyone thought they should have thrown a fade. Now, with the Phins, its the opposite criticism. The fact is, on the goal line, if it works, its genius, if it doesn't, its idiotic.

Personnel decisions that will hurt the Phins most this year: drafting Pouncey to play center in the first round, and signing Colombo to play right tackle. Tackle was a deep position in the draft. If the front office wanted to focus on the line in Round 1, they should have taken a highly-rated tackle, and then signed one of the many solid free agent guards that were going to be on the market.

Polite - We keep lots of role players. His role was 3rd and 2 & 4th and 1.
He was damn good at it though his blocking last year was poor.
Personally I would have ran our leading rusher on the goal line play. (Henne)

The difference is running the football in that situation is a higher percentage play than throwing a fade to your #2 or #3 receiver.

The old saying "if you can't get it in from half a yard you don't deserve to get in anyway" holds true. If the other team gets lower and stops you, then you didn't deserve to get the touchdown. You got out-executed. But at least you played the percentages correctly.

If you want to pass in that situation, at least roll out where the QB has options... not an extremely low percentage fade attempt on 4th down.

The Saints couldn't block the Packers... they didn't deserve to get in...

if you throw a fade pattern in the red zone on 4th down to brian hartline you deserve to lose...end of story...like the guys gonna climb the latter and come down with the ball...hell he never catches anything above his head anywhere on the field but he's gonna outmuscle a db and climb the latter and make a play...get the hell out of here...terrible dan henning like dumb ****

thats the kind of play call you make with marshall or even roberto wallace...a physical force...

that said i would have never in a million years off what i saw this preseason and in the game prior tried to run up the gut with reggie bush on that play...never...and the pats knew we weren't gonna do it either
