Drew Brees. We all kick ourselves for passing on this guy twice, but what did fans think of him back when he was a rookie? Let's see.

http://www.finheaven.com/forums/showthread.php?9588-Drew-BREES-is-very-AVERAGE!!!!!

I see a guy that is just another QB. He doesnt have great arm strength. Nothing special at all. God, would that have been great if Fletcher would have had that pick??? I like Fletcher the way he is playing over Brees. I like JAY over Brees. Another correct decision by WANNSPIEL
-DENNY

Like I said in another thread, he played in a system at college that passed all the time, and that inflated his stats. I was glad we didn't draft him in the 1st round. He's average, period.
-HELLION

Damn Skippy that the fish took Fletcher over Brees.
-DolfanISS

I think he could be good for a season or two somewhere along the way but his physical limitations will catch up to him.

I said it again and again, don't underestimate this defense and the effect it can have on a YOUNG QUARTERBACK. Its our specialty. We eat them for breakfast.-CKParrothead

A classic Fiedler Vs. Brees debate with arguments on both sides: http://www.finheaven.com/forums/showthread.php?10991-Drew-Brees-vs-Jay-Fiedler

Drew Brees trade rumor in 2003 brings the following comments:
http://www.finheaven.com/forums/showthread.php?29237-Drew-Brees-possibly-traded-to-Fins

WOW...

Talk about going from Bad to Worst...Hell no..

I would much rather trade for Couch who I think is not mentally tough enough for QB position.
-minus

No. Jay is better than Brees.
-DolphinDevil28

there are 3 qbs on the fins roster better than brees
-Phishstix

Brees threw 3 INTs again on Sunday. Brees got benched again on Sunday. And this time Brees and Schottenheimer exchanged words on the sidelines.

If we trade for him, it'll be for a low round pick and a backup/temporary role.

The Phins didn't miss anything with Brees. What they missed out on that year was Matt Hasselbeck.
-Muck

I'd take Sage over brees. He's not the answer to our problems, and with a draft this deep in QB's there's no point in getting him NOW.
-Phinzone

This is the dumbest thread ever. Brees has been nothing short of awful this season, proving beyond any doubt that he was a success in college because of Joe Tiller's system.
-Boomer

Why would the Dolphins regret passing up on Brees? The guy has done nothing at all in the NFL.

I don't buy this story. I don't think the Dolphins are dumb enough to trade for Drew Brees.
-iceblizzard

When the commish was stepping to the podium, I was saying, "Please no Drew Brees....Please no Drew Brees...".

I could understand the thought process behind drafting Fletcher. We just coming off the "Jerry Wilson debacle" at nickelback. And Sam Madison had signed a big contract. Not only where they upgrading the nickel spot, but they were also trying to gain some flexibility for the future.

Madison's play has fallen off. Just look around the board and you'll see the calls for him to be shipped off. Now wouldn't it have been nice to have had a young CB ready to step in, signed thru 2006?? That was the long-term thinking behind the pick. They just picked the wrong guy.
-Muck

I totally understood why we took a CB. I questioned Fletcher because he wasn't a bump and run corner at Wisconsin. The corner we actually targeted was Willie Middlebrooks who went to Denver. Personally I wanted Kendrell Bell or Tommy Polley. There is NO way Miami trades anything for Drew Brees. He's no upgrade over what we have.
-Boomer

Aaron Rodgers? How did we feel before the 2005 draft?

Lets see:

http://www.finheaven.com/forums/showthread.php?62555-Aaron-Rodgers-Alex-Smith-are-they-worthy

Rodgers reminds me of Akili Smith an awful lot.
-Martel

Rodgers I believe has a better gun, better mechanics, better mobility, and is use to doing more without having 50 times to pass the ball a game. They ran a whole lot over in Cal with JJ Arrington, and though I like Arrington, he's a concensus 3rd rounder or 2nd rounder at best. Defenses were scared of Rodgers, you could see it.
-CKParrothead
<--- CK came through!

but....

Yeah you know I was just looking through some stats. Smith really was quite productive, and I didn't know he was such a force running the ball as well as passing it.

He's ultra smart, ultra productive, pretty good height, speed, arm....if he's accurate and consistent I say heck, take him.
-CKParrothead in regard to Alex Smith

http://www.finheaven.com/forums/showthread.php?61185-MERGED-Aaron-Rodgers-enters-draft

I am not an AJ Feeley fan, but I hope more then anything we don't draft a QB with our first pick.
-Phinsdude

I agree, i think there are other QB's who are just as good who we can get later.
-FinFan54

I don't know since when Rodgers is an "average" quarterback. He's got awesome mechanics, pinpoint accuracy, great feet to make plays on the run, and a pretty darn good arm. He's excelled in a pro style west coast offense...and it's one of the reasons I'd like to see Miami bring on a WCO coordinator...perfect for Rodgers.
-CKParrothead

I say Feeley as the starter right now and draft a QB in round 3. HOWEVER, I would take a LONG look at Rodgers before passing up on him.
-Nublar7

Matt Ryan Time!

http://www.finheaven.com/forums/showthread.php?211596-My-Thoughts-On-Matt-Ryan-So-Far...

It was Alex Smith in 2005, Brady Quinn in 2007, and now Matt Ryan in 2008. Whenever the quarterback class is weak, somebody who's not supposed to rise to the top always does. Matt Ryan damn sure wouldn't have been the number one quarterback in 2004 or 2006.
-X-Pacolpse

http://www.finheaven.com/forums/showthread.php?209441-Matt-Ryan-with-the-1-pick

ABSOLUTELY NO!!!!
-DefensiveEnd76 on drafting Matt Ryan with 1st round pick

bsolutely yes. even if beck succeeds, Ryan will be a huge upgrade over him. Never pass up a franchise QB to take a NT or OLB
-adamprez2003
--- One of the few who can claim they wanted Matt Ryan in 2008 draft.

http://www.finheaven.com/forums/showthread.php?213031-enough-is-enough-take-MATT-RYAN!!

many, including me, do not think ryan is first pick worthy.. maybe at some pick after number ten, but he just isn't worth it above that IMO.
-cnc66

I would like Matt Ryan, but only if we are able to trade down and somehow stay in the top 10. Right now, there are little to no indications of that happening.
-Aqua and Orange

Welcome aboard to the site, but do you really think Matt Ryan is top ten material? I see him as a mid-first round talent, a huge reach at #1 overall.
-ih8brady

Its ridiculous that people dont want this kid.
-WVDolphan
--- Kudos

We could go on and on, but when draft day rolls around tomorrow, remember one thing... WE ALL DON'T KNOW ****! :)

BONUS: Brady Quinn

http://www.finheaven.com/forums/showthread.php?193718-Will-we-get-Brady-Quinn/page2

brady my dreamboat will be in aqua and orange come saturday!
-The ever optimistic ohiobryan

Another good Brady Quinn pre-draft thread:
http://www.finheaven.com/forums/showthread.php?189674-Fins-making-a-move-for-Brady-Quinn

Some of those post are hysterical, even makes it more fun some of the same members still have the same mentality as they did when Brees was in the draft! Lol we can get a qb in the later rounds.

Hahaha this was awesome...But I still don't like Ryan, I'd rather have a playoff winner. Ryan has an incredible amount of talent around him on offense and generated **** in the game verse the Giants.

Manning didn't win a playoff game in his first 4 seasons.and he had weapons!

I remember all the hate on Phillip Rivers the year he was coming out of college too. Also, I really wanted Rodgers over Ronnie and couldn't understand why almost everyone here wanted Ronnie Brown. I guess what I'm trying to say is, this place flat out makes me laugh, but still, I visit here everyday and a number of other sites to get any kind of inside information to my favorite team.

Peyton didn't win a playoff game until his 6th season. There was a 41-0 drubbing at the hands of the Jets and Chad Pennington thrown in there too.

Shame all these great threads are popping up right as everyone is focused on the draft that's about to take place...

Bookmarked.

I wanted Brees, I wanted Rogers and I absolutely want Tannehill!......I wasn't on this board for the Brees Draft, but I was for the Aaron Rogers draft....where are my posts?

:goodpost: Bravo, well played! I'm just happy my name didn't show up

Put me down for Weeden and firmly against drafting Brady Queen. (Also record me from ranging from relief to a "WTF moment" between hearing no Quinn being called and then realizing exactly who Cam did draft.).

Put me down for Mallett. Also log me in (the old alt.sports newsgroup) for wanting whichever QB in 05 that SF didn't take (and certainly not a part time SEC RB) Oh and put me down for Jake and never having a reason to look back. (Wish I could say I foresaw Flacco being the stud in that draft, but I didn't) Oh, and then in free agency paint me in as staunchly anti Dumpecker and Orton... and skeptical about Flynn mostly because I wasn't sufficiently skeptical about AJ Feeley.

That should about do it.

There's nothing wrong with being wrong as long as you actually believe what you believe based on something relevant to the prospect, coach, owner, or front office executive.

However, what happens is that people defend any and every move the Dolphins make, even when they know it's clearly wrong.
Make no mistake, there's people that want Tannehill, Coples, etc.... that will suddenly find themselves in every thread defending Ireland tooth and nail for passing them up in favor of drafting Rosie O'Donnell and sticking her at nose tackle.

And anyone that doesn't support that decision is a bad fan, 'hater', or a miserable person.

You can find the people in Miami's front office over the past decade that were just as wrong, or even moreso than the fans. They aren't always right either.

The difference is that the folks that don't follow these clowns off a cliff REALLY have to believe what they believe in order to have a "negative" point of view on a particular subject. It's not because they ENJOY watching it happen... it's because they actually BELIEVE it. It takes that level of conviction to dig your heels in.

Anybody can just follow along and pump sunshine and lollipops up each other's a**es.... knowing damn well that they don't even BELIEVE what they type. They just don't like seeing there team "bashed", so they take the complete opposite stance to a fault and defend indefensible points of view for the sake of being a fan.

As long as you're a "true fan", you never have to admit being wrong. Only the "haters" are required to eat crow.

This is the dynamics of over-emotional sports fans on both sides. It'll never change.

It's not the talent, it's not the players, it's not the coaches, it's not the front office, and it's not the owner. Then exactly what is the fundamental cause of a perennial loser if none of that is the issue?

It's the fans, of course.

At the end of the day, we're just fans. We have opinions, and they can be wrong. The people that run this organization have been consistently wrong for a while now. They need to make better decisions.
