Peter King: Gil Brandt says we may have seen last of Manning in football uniform

I can't see why we would want Manning here. He's a 2 year player at most. And with his neck issues I just wouldn't want him. We need to build with a young guy who will be here for the next 12 years or so.
why? because a healthy peyton makes any team a super bowl contender and possible winner, well worth it even if he was only on the team for two years.

Sitting a Tannehill or Osweiler behind Manning for 2 years sounds like a pretty solid plan to me...

this is something i was worried about early this season even...that the colts have known for some time peyton is done...his injury is a career ending one...if its true the decision on peyton was made weeks ago says to me odds are good that he's gonna have to hang em up...

i just find it hard to believe the colts would just cut him and walk away from him when they could get something for him if it was any other way...the medical outlook must be grim if this is true...

I'm not a nuerosurgeon but 3 cervical surgeries in 19 months
with the last being a spinal fusion does not lend itself to being an NFL QB

Why risk being a Quadriplegic WHEN HE CAN WALK AWAY WITH ALL HIS MONEY
AND LIVE HAPPILY EVER AFTER

the only thing i'll say to the whole 3 surgeries with a fusion thing is something tells me peyton mannings not seeing the local hack most of us are...he's seeing the best guys in the world...or at least he should be

so your experience from the local guy and his imo are gonna be a lot different...at least it would seem that way to me...similar to kobe going to china i think it was to have some platelets put in his legs...thats not happening to 99.9 percent of us...

that said the spines not something to mess with...we're gonna get some real answers here shortly...

So, at best, we win one superbowl, and then Manning retires. And we don't have a quality QB on the roster, so we fall back into mediocrity for another decade? I'll pass. I'll take the QB that can last 15 years

with the way things have gone for us i'd settle for 5 even...

I think you'd be surprised as to what kind of help is available to non athletes ... In the end there is only a limited number of ways to rehab Mannings kind of injury .. and non seem to have helped him to get back on the field any quicker ... which leads me to believe after getting a plate is attached to a cervical spine there is only so much that a person can do, due to the immobility of the area the plate is screwed into .. no matter what doctor a person sees ..

maybe...can't say i've had any fusion surgery...a doc wanted to fuse my hand after i broke it a little over a year ago now and i told him to pound sand...and i pretty much have all mobility and flexibility back that i had before...not that the spine is anywhere close to the same thing...

3 surgeries to the neck/spine area is not something to mess around with. I think it would be in his best interest to retire. He's already a Hall of Famer and has his ring, he should leave with the decent health he has now

most folks at this site that are in the healthcare field were saying this since august of last year

i and no one i know would ever clear someone with a cervical fusion to play football, it is a crazy risk you dont need to take, no one wants to be a quad

sManning's done..at least in any conceivable form as a NFL player.......I have to believe that Ross knew this but was throwing out his name either as a smokescreen (to go after Flynn), to impress his celeb shareholders or possibly just to be able to say to he fans that "See....I willing to get the biggest name in FA....aren't I a great owner...please buy tickets"

While I know it was only the Pro Bowl, Marshall's comment were quite telling. He did it without throwing anyone under the bus but confirmed what anyone with a clear head should realize - Matt Moore, Chad Henne, etc. are not getting us to the next level and for that we need a franchise QB.

I picture him retiring...but feeling good enough in another year to attempt a comeback.
