In a Tuesday interview with ESPN's Trey Wingo, Peyton Manning (neck surgeries) insisted that he expects to receive medical clearance to play the 2012 season.

Despite heavy speculation Monday that multiple surgeries will end Manning's career, he maintains that he's still making steady progress in rebuilding strength. "Doctors and I have been in good, constant communication," said Manning. "And I'm very encouraged by what they've said. Everything's right on point that I'll be cleared and ready to play." Of the retirement reports, Manning said, "I have no plans on doing that." ESPN's Adam Schefter expects Manning to become "the most decorated and high-profile free agent in NFL history." His $28 million option will likely be declined well before the March 8 deadline.

I've been consistantly of the mind that Peyton will be playing in 2012.. Reading this gives me a good laugh, after reading 2 days of "Peytons done, moving on" threads.

Peyton Manning retiring rumor reports are clueless. If he's released and cleared to play i wouldn't mind taking him over flynn.

I expect to hook up with Mila Kunis this year. Guess that means it's gonna happen

The last person to come to the realization they need to retire is the player himself. It should be no surprise he thiks he'll get a clearance. That does not mean he will get one.

I just think its funny that some people would buy what the media is selling and completely discredit what the guy himself is saying...

I certainly am not getting tired of the Peyton Manning threads......:idk:

I think that remains to be the only unknown. If he's cleared after the draft his options go way down, he knows this. If Peyton plays in 2012 I believe he will be cleared before the draft due to this reason, if he isn't, well then maybe Peyton was just being overly optimistic all along. We'll see..

We need a Manning Super-thread.

This is getting old fast.

It will continue every other day with someone claiming 'Inside information" on what is going to happen.

No one really knows and until he is medically cleared or files his retirement papers, everyone is just guessing (Manning included).

"If he's cleared to play" is a big IF. No one thinks he's going to retire just because he's lost the passion to play. Peyton says he's doing fine with his recovery, others say he's not. Most likely it's somewhere in the middle. Bad thing is is that free agency starts in 6 weeks. Highly unlikely he's cleared to play by then. Then what do you do? Do you wait and hope he's cleared and that you're able to sign him? Do you sign him and hope for the best or do you just go in a completely different direction?

For me it depends on when that medical clearance comes. If it comes in time for free agency and draft, fine. If not, passing. Too many variables for the Dolphins to put all their eggs in the Manning basket. Dolphins can't afford to pass on Flynn (if Philbin believes in him) and quarterbacks in the draft hoping that Peyton is cleared, well enough to play and chooses the Dolphins over the many other suitors he'll surely have.

Mort said yesterday on NFL 32 that Manning should be back around 100% in late May.

I don't know guys.. it's too risky, I mean one blind side hit and he is done.

Which is why I'm happy we have one of the best backups/transitional starters in the league right behind him (Moore).
