Peyton Manning - Interesting Counterpoint AGAINST signing him

My feeling is that Peyton would get us into the playoffs, get us late draft picks, but age out before he's able to get us to the SB. So 3 years from now, our young core has aged, our late draft picks have dropped our overall talent level, and we're looking for a franchise qb. Oh, and probably a new head coach and gm by then.
in 3 years , a lot of the quality vets we have will be heading past their primes. IF we have the right coach in place then need not worry about these things. how much patience does ross and the fans have for waiting for a rookie qb to develop for a 2 or 3 years or waiting for a guy like flynn to go through the bumps and bruises before he matures into a quality starter. i prefer to get manning now and go for it, guys like bush and marshall wont be at the top of their game for much longer.

Your point is? he's had a team capable of winning SBs for 90% of his career and he has one(thanks to dueling Rex Grossman in the SB).

Despite all of your reasons not to, the majority of jets fans and media would throw Sancheez into the east river for a 36 year old Peyton Manning. The problem would be that even with Manning playing a high level, Sparano would still find a way to line up for a field goal.

Of course they would just like they all wanted to get rid of Chad for Favre which cost us a division title. I don't doubt average fans get wowed by big names but I'm not one of them. Even w/ peyton's choking history if you could guarantee me he's healthy for the next 5 years then I'd take a shot but it makes no sense to give up on a promising young QB for a guy who may never ben the same and may not last more than a year or 2.

Hiring Sparano tells us all we need to know as far as our interest in Peyton. Sparano was brought here to make the O more conservative and get Sanchez back on track after a down 2011 season. By the way, b/c Sparano settled for FGs as a HC doesn't mean he will as an OC.

In the day's of a wide open NFL passing league, the Jets bring in Sparano to get conservative. LMFAO.

Years ago I argued with you about how the Jets would have to play to make Sanchez successful, that was run first to set the pass and play great D. Last season they geared up to pass to set the run and it failed.

A good QB isn't hindered by his offensive philosophies, if anything a good QB is held back by a conservative offense. That offensive line better eat there Wheaties this offseason because the success of the Jets rests on their back entirely.

That is a myth that they geared up to pass and failed. We still wanted to run the ball but we couldn't and we fell behind forcing us to pass more than we wanted. The problems of last year starte dup front, the OL was culprit #1, if they could open some holes and protect the passer better they would have fared much better. This offseason we need to fix the OL and everything else will fall into place. Santonio didn't go about it the right way but he was 100% correct in pointing out how bad the OL was.

Sanchez is still young, he had 2 successful seasons and one step back. This is a crucial year, he took such a beating last year that maybe his confidence is shot for good? I think he's mentally tougher than that but I am on board to do everything possible to help him and bringing in a simpler O will help. I did prefer to keep the old OC but w/ a change being made I'm ok w/ the philosophy but I have no idea how well Tony will do since he's only been a playcaller one year in his career.

Fix the OL and we'll be an AFC contender again next season.

Sparano believes in running the ball as much as possible. That is the crutch that helps Sancheez. Once the pressure is off Sancheez to make plays, he will be at his best. It is good philosophy, but when they get into a situation where the running game is stuffed, then they will be in trouble.

Man are you drunk? Peyton will elevate the talent around him, teach the youngster, and possibly have the team in a playoff game? you have to know that Miami will draft a QB and that QB has to learn also, let him hold a clipboard for 2 years, whomever the QB is he won't be as ready as Peyton Manning, Peyton is a baller in any offensive scheme.

His only year calling plays they yhrew much more than they ran but I agree we'll run much more. I don't think it will be like 2009, I think we'll throw more than run but it will be much more balanced than a year ago.

Again, in prior posts (feel free to dig through my last 3000 if you wish) I said in order for the Jets to be successful they had better address the aging offensive line (they did to an extent), be able to run the ball (they didn't) and play good defense (the D didn't play as well in 10 as in 09). This is the only way Sanchez was ever going to be successful and even in the playoff runs Rex had to lean on his running game to get Sanchez to play better and when the running game failed so did Sanchez.

In the post above you just said Sparano is being brought in to make the offense more conservative to improve Sanchez's success stating exactly my point from the past two plus years about Sanchez and his ability to lead an offense.

Sanchez will never be Manning or Brady and at this point he struggling to keep a starting QB roll, he is almost backup level material.

That's not groundbreaking stuff, if a QB has a poor OL and poor run game it's going to be difficult to pass especially adding in the problems we had at WR. It's a simple fix to me, fix the OL. Draft or sign a RT and we'll be ok. Remember, Mangold was playing hurt most of the year as was Brandon Moore and Wayne Hunter didn't adjust to being a full time starter. Assuming Moore and Mangold are healthy, Brick is back to his normal self and we get better RT play this OL should be MUCH better.

of course he will never be Brady or Manning but you don't need a Brady or Manning to win. Backup level material QBs don't go to back to back title games, even in a "bad" year this year we were 8-8. If your QB is that bad w/ as bad as the team was around him you aren't going 8-8.

here is the thing manning would be a short term answer, if that short term answer delivers us a super bowl, i could speak for everyone here, we will be beyond excited. I will be good with that. flynn however, will be the long term answer, he might win us a super bowl, or maybe several, but how long would it take him. The positive thing is we are still good if it is the worst case scenario, because we will have matt moore, who did a good job last year, and with this offense, and set of coaches he will flourish, who knows maybe they coach up devlin to be flynn

As bad as Miami was this past season they were two defensive stops away from being 8-8 with a backup QB at the helm. You need a good QB to win constantly in the NFL, Sanchez is average at best and his performance shows that. If the Jets have a decent QB such as let's say Eli, they are in at least one Super Bowl and have three straight playoff appearances.

It really isn't ground breaking stuff junc but you argued with me back when I posted it that it wasn't the case. I fail to see why the Jets continue to handcuff themselves to Sanchez, I like that they are but if I was a Jets fan I would be pissed by now.

Oh please, 2 defensive stops from being 8-8. we were 3 defensive stops away from being 11-5 but we earned our 8-8 record as you did your 6-10 record.

We have won pretty consistently in sanchez's 3 years, we are the only team to have played in 2 conf title games in those 3 years.

The game is about winning and Sanchez is a winner.
