Miami is in at #16.

16. Miami Dolphins (21st)
PB: 16th, RB: 15th, PEN: 9th

Stud: A year later than most had planned, but Branden Albert has been a big get for this team. He brings a nastiness from tackle that few have and looks extremely motivated to take the next step in terms of external recognition.

Dud: Perhaps Daryn Colledge is coming to the end of the line. Passable in pass protection, he’s been the weakest link (unless Dallas Thomas has been on the field) in the run game.

Summary: Considering they lost their star center, were starting a rookie right tackle and had issues at both guard spots, this can be considered a win. The play of James, viewed by some as a project, can be particularly pleasing as with that of Samson Satele who hasn’t been the liability he had become in Indianapolis.

Football Outsiders has us at #2 in run blocking and #14 in pass pro.

I've seen another site that had us at 5 in pass blocking, and 9 in run blocking, or vice versa.

These are all different ways to "grade" O line play.
Consensus: Were a lot better than last year and should get better with Pouncey back, and these guys playing together more. Maybe a top 10 O-line by the end of they year

16th seems about right and should improve as the season progresses...in fact I think 16 is very impressive if you consider that none of the 5 starter have played together before and we are missing (arguably) our best lineman. Big credit to Benton and the leader on the o-line (Albert) for bring this group together.

John Benton deserves a ton of praise.

Albert LT, Pouncey LG, Satele C, Smith RG, James RT. A killer line that is an absolute road grader in the running game.

Yeah, this is based on individual blocking added together, and not as a unit. If you went with run yardage and average, the run will be higher but, I give some credit to Moreno, Miller, and DT for that. If you went heavy on sacks allowed, the pass blocking would be a little higher. Overall, I believe this is pretty accurate.

In addition to 5 new starters, Benton was not given a lot of talent with Colledge and Satele coming from the unwanted, and no starting caliber RG. Yet, he has pulled a rabbit out of his hat for sure. I would add in some credit to Lazor on play calls but, it's mostly about Benton doing a great job.

Going to be interesting to see what he does in adding a Pro Bowler to his mix.

At 16th that sounds about right to me. Decent. We can win with that. Not dominant or even very good, but they have their hare of moments.

Lots of praise to go around. I'd start with Benton. He is every bit as good as I and many others said. The guy consistently makes the whole better than the sum of its parts. Bill Lazor. I assured everyone that he would manufacture a run game with teaching, play calling and a myriad of looks. He would take advantage of pass defenses to run against soft fronts and make us look better than we are in the run game.

The players have done well. Albert has proven every bit as good as advertised. His run blocking has been decent. Let's hope it continues and that he stays healthy. James has shown solid pass protection, which is tough for a rookie. His run blocking has been unimpressive. But, he looks able to slide over to LT if Albert goes down. Satele has been OK. Much better than most expected and definitely not the liability many predicted. Let's hope he keeps it up. Daryn Colledge has been solid in pass pro and does a good job of picking up and handling stunts/twists. His run blocking has been inconsistent, but overall I'm pleased.

Right guard is still a problem. Dallas Thomas looks less terrible than last year, but let's hope he doesn't play because he isn't good enough. Billy Turner is having the tough transition year I predicted. Many posters thought he could just slide in and be great because he is physically gifted ... but it doesn't work that way. Just because you can sing beautifully doesn't mean you can step into year 3 of a foreign language class and ace it with no prior experience at that language. So, we have to live with Turner taking time to adjust.

Then there is Dennis Hickey. It is still too early to judge objectively, but it looks pretty good so far. Albert was a hit. He banked on Smith and Turner which were misses, but he showed enough flexibility to adjust his plan and bring on Colledge and then Satele who have both been hits for their salary. Finnegan is expensive but has done OK. Ditto for Delmas. If they stay healthy they look like solid moves ... but injuries are always a looming spectre with those guys. Draft shows flashes with one decent starter drafted in the middle of the first round. It's too soon to make the call, but things look like they have potential.

Not to nitpick, but why do you think Smith and Turner are misses? Smith was the starter at RG until he got hurt. Turner was expected to take some time, plus he has also been hurt. Compared to Ireland's butchery of the OL, this has been outstanding.

The biggest things that I see are that the players look like a fit for the system and their communication looks better than last season.

Need to give some credit to the blocking of TE's and RB's. So far, in pass blocking, they have given up 0 sacks, Clay gave up a hit, Sims a hurry, Miller 2 hurries, and Moreno one. The run blocking from Clay and Sims has gone from absolutely horrible to abut average. This has made a difference as well.

Agree. Turner needs to play before calling him a hit or miss, and Smith was hindered by the center move as well as injury. Not saying either will work out but, need some time to decide.
