PFT: Browns not pursuing Matt Flynn

Flynn is the most ready to execute Philbin's offense from day #1.
If we want to win right away outside of Manning he is the best option.
We won't know about his "ceiling" until a year or two from now.

It took Schaub a couple of years to really define his value.
If Philbin thinks Flynn is starter material then we must trust him.

I agree totally.

I will go with Philbin on on this one. What are your credentials. How many of his practices have you seen. Unbelievable.

What's unbelievable is to think Philbin is so high on him when he is still out there....

If you are going with Philbin and his credentials...prove it and stop being so defensive of a guy he has YET TO SIGN.

Do we get Green Bay's WR core with Flynn?

Flynn can now be signed for a reasonable price.

Exactly! By playing it cool and backing the Browns and Seahawks off, we probably saved ourselves 10 million at least! Well played by Philbin and the fins.

Will everyone stop with Flynn....

He's another AJ Feeley and we already have Moore.

I do not want him here.

I don't understand why the names "AJ Feeley" and "Kevin Kolb" keep getting tossed around when talking about Flynn. Those quarterbacks are nothing like Flynn.

The only reason people keep mentioning them is because all three were backups before getting starting jobs. That is the ONLY comparison. Flynn is a much better prospect then either of those guys. Is a franchise quarterback? That I don't know. Is he lightyears better than Matt Moore? That I don't know either.

However, unlike Feeley and Kolb, there is no drastic trade compensation. There may not even be a large $10 million per year contract. Well, you could say Flynn was a product of the system and game planning in Green Bay. Guess what, that game planner(Philbin) and system are now in Miami. Who do you think knows the most about Flynn? The every day fan who looks at stats on NFL.com, or the guy who has been working with Flynn EVERY day for the past four years? If Philbin sees him as a starting quarterback and someone to build around, then obviously there must be something there. This isn't a front office like the 2004 Dolphins or last year's Cardinals getting a guy because of the buzz he created in a few starts. The guy that potentially would be bringing Flynn to Miami knows him better than any coach in the league.

To keep saying "he sucks", "he will be a bust", "he is another Feeley or Kolb" is such a simple uneducated response. You have no clue what Flynn will be like, and I am not claiming I do either. All I know is if Philbin wants him, you have to place trust in the move. Now, if I am the Browns or Seahawks, I would be worried about getting him, because their coaches have no idea besides the buzz.

A more FAIR person to compare Flynn to would be Matt Hasselbeck. A former 6th round pick of the Packers who sat behind Favre until getting a starting job in Seattle. That is a MUCH better comparison.

Agreed, its lazy talk to just say he sucks or another Feeley.

Matt Flynn= the next Matt Hassellback, Mark Brunnell, Matt Schaub those comparisons are just as valid.

Plus Matt is not going to cost us any draft picks.

What is not lazy is when you look at Flynn pre draft analysis. Seventh round pick. He has a below average arm. His physical skills are very pedestrian. His game is the short passing game. If he can be signed to a very reasonable, albeit cheap, contract, then he is a good guy to compete with Moore. No way hand him the starters job. Then you have the issue of inexperience in actual games. Matt Moore is way ahead of him. I have more faith in Moore because I have watched him play. He has done well and he has a nice deep ball. Rated 12 in the league, and at the top of the league for plays over 20 yards.
I may be in the minority, but I would rather draft a rookie, possibly Tannehill if we can get him, and take my chances with Matt Moore. Otherwise we should accept the fact that there is no quality QB worth acquiring this year for us and set our selves up for next years draft. Because a lot of teams have filled their QB needs this year, the list of suitors should be less. We have Barkley, and Landry Jones next year. We should set our sights on one of those two guys and roll with Matt Moore this year. We will have to sign a serviceable back up. IF Henne is still around after the dust settles, he would be OK with me as back up until next year. Or another stiff, in case Moore gets hurt.

Outstanding post, right on target :-)
