During Garrards career in games he has started the jags have averaged scoring 21.5 points per game.

While not at the top of the league it is hardly boring.

stop looking at stats and turn your tv on...i don't even care if its boring...its more about how hard is it for a defense to shut you down...and that jax o pretty dang average...i might be being kind with that...look jax liked garrard so much as they're qb they drafted blaine gabbert in the top 12 last year...they know what we are gonna figure out...and that's that garrards not good enough...same thing that denver and chicago knew when we were sniffing around kyle orton

as for that 21.5 ppg or whatever mjd carried that offense to whatever success it had...

So what? You are comparing a completely different offensive style and saying that because he had a TOP in one style, that he will do the same in the other style. Don't even bother arguing it...it's nonsense.

that jets supporting cast was much better than good...that d was LEGIT...that running game was LEGIT...the oline played well...that team played well...i mean yeah if you're looking for can a average qb carry you to the cusp of the super bowl on occasion sure it happens...but you won't make a living with average qbs and average skill position talent...somethings gotta be elite whether it be the defense the offense the qb...something

I get that but ur not getting the big picture, were not counting on garrard to be our franchise qb, were counting on him (or matt moore) to play wellenough to win games until tannehill (hopefully our franchise qb) is ready

i'm counting on at some point miami becoming relevant before i die...and it's not happening with garrard or moore under center

Chances are it will be Garrard or Moore starting this season. I think they drafted Tannehill knowing he was going to have to sit. It was said constantly from tons of places leading up to and during the draft that he was a prospect who would need to sit for a year or two. Its not a secret or breaking news. Garrard and Moore are both decent QBs. I dont think anyone is expecting them to be a franchise QB. I think its pretty evident that Ryan Tannehill is viewed as the future but they know he is not ready. So why not give him at least a year learning and working with NFL coaches and players to learn the game and improve on his overall game and mechanics. We have Garrard AND Moore who both are game manager type QBs, who would both make excellent backups to a true franchise QB. Philbin will let the best man win the competition and will try to win now with a veteran. Philbin is not going to tank the season by playing Tannehill when hes clearly not ready just to get the kid game experience. If were blowing someone out or getting blown out one game, fine throw the kid in and see what he can do this year but the smartest thing to do is roll with one of the veterans this season.

If Tannehill tears it up and plays better than Moore and Garrard in camp then play him. I know mini camps in shorts arent a good indication of whats to come but it sounded like Tannehill was clearly behind the other two guys in terms of production. If camp starts up and Tannehill kicks it up a notch and is playing to Garrard and Moores level of play or better then you would have to consider starting him, although i do still think its not a bad idea to have him sit for at least one year. But then again i would also not really have a problem with him starting if he clearly deserves it.

i read this yesterday elsewhere...and thought...that sounds great and all spread the wealth get other involved etc but why do you think the pack is able to spread the wealth so much...cause of guys like greg jennings and jordy nelson and jermichael finley and aaron rodgers that take so much of the defenses attention the roll players can get theirs...

you take those guys out of the equation and just run with roll players which is what we pretty much are trying to do in miami and that o stops running like a well oiled machine...

The secret to the success of the Philbin offense is the system, not the players. Not that you can achieve success with scrubs, absolutely not.

But you use players who suit the system and who make it work, not players who are game-changing as individuals. The offense needs guys who can think fast, be disciplined and who can hustle. Guys who can hit the marks and know the script, not one-offs who can improvise a monologue. If there was ever a system suited to what we have, this is it.

Obviously, if your players are all of the above and more, as in GB, you'll achieve more than Miami will. But this will be an effective offense for us precisely because it's about creating yards from tempo, creating confusion and executing crisp plays during that confusion.

The Oregon Ducks offense, with a committee approach, no huddle and no WR stars were the 4th ranked team in the country for points scored. Imo, in a Sparano offense, they'd have been in the bottom quarter, even with as high a number of rushing plays as they had.

Where I'm less convinced is with our endzone woes. I hope the new personnel can give us a big lift there, because I'd worry about our scoring potential in any offensive formation when we get into goal line situations.

you are talking about two of the top skill position players in football in greg jennings and jermichael finley...add in jordy nelson who now destroys press coverage and has such great strength and body control to go get the ball at its highest point and you got 3 legitimate studs...don't forget aaron rodgers a top 3 qb at worst...

on 3rd down its not about the system it's about greg jennings running beautiful back shoulder fade routes about precision timing from aaron rodgers and ball placement it's about jordy nelson getting a matchup he can chew up it's about jermichael finley being flexed out or lined up wide and being able to destroy single coverage...it's about the defense being so enamored with the guys i've mentioned that a relatively average rb can scamper on a draw play into the second level untouched...etc

the pack get it done at such a high level cause they have the players to execute at that level...the premium talents...and a great gameplan

In 2007 Garrard was efficient at moving the chains, Jax was 3rd at time of Possession
In 2008 Garrard led the Jags to 8th best time of possesion.
In 2009 Garrard led the jags to the 19th best time of possesion
In 2010 garrard led the Jags to the 4th best time of possesion.


In those 4 years the Jags alsways had the ball more than their opposition.

Garrard has shown he knows how to move the chains.

2010 Jags were 8th according to NFL.com
with a top of 31.48

2009 they had the jags at 12th with 30.21 top

2008 they had the Jags at 9th with 31.29op

In 2010 the Jags had the ball 54 seconds more than us per game
In 2009 we beat the Jags by 1 min and 51 seconds per game
In 2008 the Jags had the ball 26 seconds more per game than us

In those 3 years we had a better time of possession than the Jags by 31 seconds per game average

IMO this fast pace on the offense and defense is contributing heavily to our rookies and first year players not looking so good in the practices so far at least I hope so. Of course as long as it helps them play better come game time I could care less how they look in practices for now. It is going to be interesting these next 3 months I just hope we can see the improvement to stay excited after the first half of the year.

did you guys watch jax with garrard prior to him getting hurt last year and missing the season??? even before he was hurt that offense was stagnant as hell...bla...boring...you name it...and thats not all because they didn't have weapons or the oc stunk...it's cause the qb was pretty dang average also...

i would say another argument for the "it's the system more than the players" side of things would be that matt flynn came in and the o pretty much didn't skip a beat...but i happen to believe that matt flynn is a pretty solid qb and one worth taking a chance on going forward...

My fisrt thought was this. If we score quickly and often, it may make opposing teams go to the air more often. I like this because our secondary with Wilson, Jones, Vontae, Smith, can have more opportunity for more interceptions.
But if our guys arent there yet, it could be disaterous. I'm going with te former since they have been around for several seasons and are getting better.
