First of all, I am not convinced that Martin wants to play. However, if I was running the Fins I have done something long ago. I would have reached out to Martin and asked him back...he would say no of course and still have filed the complaint with the league about working conditions.

After that, I would then say in return for dropping the complaint against the team, I would release him immediately AND pay him what ever he was to earn in the last 2 and half years of salary...lump sum. I would call his bluff because I do not think he wants in. However, if he agreed to do what I propose, my team would not be dragged through the mud and be the lead story on GMA every morning.

Mediation and settlements are always the best move.

How would the pay work if he is released? Is he entitled to his full salary for the remaining years or would it be a settlement situation?

Or fight this ****, win it and Martin goes home to his mommy and daddy empty handed. He isn't entitled to ****!

If a player like Martin is released, he is given only the remaining guaranteed money. However, the team could give him whatever they wanted out the door and put him on waivers.

I am not sure why the team has not clamored more to end this situation.

When it brings down the FO and coaching staff and brings further shame to the team, you would be better off settling.

Maybe they have but a lawsuit against the Fins and the NFL is a bigger payout.

Look for him to end up with the 49ers and his old coach Jim Harbaugh eventually. Harbaugh has of course come out and defended him recently and he may be the only one that could get his team to accept Martin into the fold.

Or the team comes out stronger out of this and look towards the future. Time will tell but no use in settling this. Martin is a snake and deserves nothing.

If I were one of the team's lawyers, I would certainly be reaching out to David Cornwell and finding out exactly what Jonathan Martin is wanting.

The dolphins better hire top lawyers to make sure this bum gets what he deserves.

If I'm on that team I don't want Martin anywhere near me as teammate.

This.

I think the Dolphins may have tried this but Martin's camp are in for a BIGGER payout...They are looking at the bigger picture than his <700k/yr salary. He's looking to hit the lottery with this.

He'll go on to write a book then eventually come out to say he's gay and then write another book

I don't think Martin has a clue what he wants, but he knows he's not coming back to Mia.

I find it funny this all happens right around when he loses his spot at LT. You have to wonder...

If he wants a release, I would give it to him, I would even pay him his coming salary BUT I would want a signed statement by him and his lawyers that he actually wants to be released by the FIns, they didn't cut him against his will, he wasn't bullied into asking for the release etc. I do not trust this person and his lawyers

In the NFL none of the contracts are guaranteed.

Drop his ass already.
