PFT: Is Martin Angling for Release?

So Martin is now not even a solid player. He started 23 straight games Im sure he can make soe team as a backup and start on some teams. Baggage yes but I guarantee he would be signed in no time.

Martin is rated as one of the worst tackles in the Nfl over the last few years. It could be argued that he has potential to become a solid tackle and I think he would have in time. But as of right now, no he isn't anything but marginal talent. The NFl has shown an incredible amount of forgiveness for those with troubled pasts, i.e. Pacman Jones, Michael Vick, etc. But only when the talent level has been too high and the needs too great to ignore the chance. Less talented individuals are cut and never seen or heard from again for even tiny infractions.

Look for him to end up with the 49ers and his old coach Jim Harbaugh eventually. Harbaugh has of course come out and defended him recently and he may be the only one that could get his team to accept Martin into the fold.

That way Aldon Smith can not only beat the crap outta him on Sundays like last year. But, just about everyday in camp!

he will sign with Indianapolis the second he is released.

That may be his end game to be honest.

Anybody else feel like he will resurface with Andy in Indy and probably become a fixture there for the better part of a decade protecting his old College buddy?

In Mia player = trouble
Elsewhere player = background noise
In Mia player cannot perform
Elsewhere player becomes Star

I didnt see your post until I had hit send on mine but we both had the same idea...If he plays again in the NFL...Indy will snag him and he will be a beast

No. I think his NFL career is over. He won't surface anywhere. He will not be accepted by any locker room. The fact that 40% of the players polled still picked Incognito as the guy they would want on their team even though he was voted dirtiest player in the NFL and is universally loathed by basically everyone except the Dolphins locker room tells me EVERYTHING. I could be wrong but I don't think his end game involves playing football.

I wouldn't release Martin,,,,,I would just have him sit the entire game on the sideline holding his helmet. He can sit there all by himself and wonder why he doesn't have a single friend on the team.

I wonder of 31 other NFL teams, how many teams Martin would be starting at RT or LT?
Martin even stated it was the culture of the NFL he had a problem with....eventually dropping his lunch tray to seek counseling. He could have gone to Philbins office to explain he was planning on leaving the team to seek counseling while on his way out of the complex, but chose not to.

There is no lottery to win. He makes a million a year. It will be hard to prove that he has lost more than he makes or that mental anguish is more than he makes,
This is why I dont buy the money grab angle

But there is a lottery to win D.

We've heard reports he had been contemplating walking away. Whether due to his perceptions of events, mental illness, inability to assimilate or cope, or what ever, we don't know. But the truth of the matter is, if he can prove that Cogs, or the Fins traumatized him to the point that he can no longer participate in his chosen profession, the payout is vastly more than a million.

It's the totality of the estimated life span of his career, including base salaries, raises, free agency calculation, endorsements, insurance, emotional distress etc. His potential windfall would probably be greater than his actual earning would have been.

And all he'd have to do is claim people weren't very nice to him, without ever again being embarrassed on National tv. Without ever again having to break a sweat. Without ever again having to get off his worthless rat ass.

That's a powerball.

Martin's such a big risk though for a new team. He clearly isn't comfortable telling his coaches (or anyone) about his issues, and when he finally does spout off -- it's to the whole media world, with no regard for the damage that will ensue.
He may even feel More inclined to not keep things behind closed doors from now on, cuz the media may follow him.

I feel a Smidgen sorry for the guy, cuz he may in fact mean well that he really just wanted to fit in and play in the NFL and have fun, but he done goofed, plain and simple.
It'd be like joining the WWE and then coming out and saying it's all Fake. You simply won't be welcome with open arms to any other wrestling show.
