PFT says ed perry may be cut

I really think Owens is just an extra TC body.. maybe someone who can push Lee and Diamond a little bit more..

It was in the paper today, Saban liked Owens as a blocking TE. A big blocker is all he is for when going to the 2 TE set.

This is a quote from the Sun-Sentinel

"The Dolphins are expected to keep three or four tight ends, including long snapper Ed Perry.":yell:

i dont think it happens, unless owens can long snap and play some actual TE for us... you know saban likes them diverse guys who can do more than one thing, and while perry is a GREAT long snapper, he cant do much of anything else... but i dont think owens can long snap so who knows

I know Owens played DE in hs JR year at ND!

Does anybody remember who the long snapper was before
Perry?

I don't, but I remember 2 years ago when he got hurt and how much of a cluster**** it was to find someone who could snap the ball. LS have a great deal of job security in the NFL.

I'd be thinking McMichael, Diamond/Lee and Perry if 3 are kept, and McMichael, Diamond, Lee and Perry if 4 are kept.

Perry has been cut.

It appears denney is his replacement. I have seen Denney lons snap at TC. He did well in most of his snaps to punter donnie jones. about 75% were right on the mark, with the rest being a little off. In 20 some snaps not one was uncontrollable. In looking at my notes jones was able to put quite a few punts with in the 20 when denney was snapping. His hangtime was never under 4 sec. Averge hangtime was 4.2 seconds. Best was 4.76. Hope this helps.

Looking at what Perry's contract was and considering how much was saved with Denney's rookie free agent contract in comparison, if they performed equally in training camp, one could see the reasoning of the coaching staff. Also, we all here continually say Perry is one of if not the best LS in the league, but IMO that is and has been slightly homer talk and I can be guilty of that myself sometimes. Has everyone here who has stated Perry is one of the best LSs in the league really done an extensive evaluation of every LS in the league to make that comparison? Probably not, more likely just echoing the sentiments of the first local expert to declare Perry was as good as it gets.
Perry is good, but the only real rankings I've seen, which were in the The Sporting News, ranked him as the 16th best LS in the league and that is not too bad. Basically saying he is average as NFL quality long snappers go. FWIW, last year they rated him as 24th best. They are not necessarily the final authority but I'd venture to guess they put a little more research into it than most fans do. :)

PFT is occassionally right sometimes after all.

Yes, I know, I know, if you throw enough sh1t at the wall, some of it will stick.....

However, they were probably leaked this info somehow.......because nobody was expecting this.....even the local papers were saying Perry would most certainly make the team.
