Phans Blind Faith in Rookies?

I think that there is cause for optimism with some of the players drafted. If you can't understand the reason for being enamored with Jarvis Landry, then watch his highlights video. He has more obvious natural talent than any player we have drafted in the past 15 years.
Yes, I'm excited. Tannehill is a reasonably accurate passer. Our QB has even remarked that Landry has the best hands he's ever seen.

I'm not down on Landry or any pick but, am not going to go by any player's highlight film from college to believe he will have anywhere near the same success in the NFL. It's a different game, at a different speed, with a totally different talent level. How rookies adapt to that will tell the tale of what they will do.

While I do agree with your assessment, I have seen many posts on Landry taking over for Gibson and Matthews in the slot, Turner starting at OG, Tripp taking over from Wheeler during the season, and Larson filling in for Pouncey. Have we been reading the same forum? :)
Jordan Tripp could be very good but it may be premature to expect him to start this year. I expect him to play Special Teams to begin with, but if he picks things up fast you never know. He's very athletic and competitive. I liked him as a possible 3rd rounder but to get him in the 5th was a steal.

FWIW, in Ireland's last 3 draft we got Odrick, Misi, Jones, and Carroll. Then, Pouncey, Clay, and Wilson. Then, RT, OV, Miller, and Matthews. Not all that bad.

Yeah, if you have the rose-colored blinders on. Odrick has not produced at a first round level...period. I consider him a bust. Misi, we've been moving this guy around to find a place for him and finally found a spot where he is "average at best", and only because we aren't smart enough to find any real player on the inside at LB. Carroll...where is he now? Pouncey...yes, very difficult to pick a center in the first...and where is he now? Clay...has produced. So that is 1. Wilson...who the **** cares about Wilson. All he can do is blitz, other than that he is nothing special. RT...Ireland had to draft a QB or get run out of town...he was the last one left...and it is actually more on Sherman than Ireland...nothing special about that pick. OV...he is looking OK. Miller...what the hell has he done. 0...once again 0....Miller is nothing. Matthews...shows promise, but sounds like he was in the doghouse, and I'm not sure with Landry here that Matthews will ever be anything more than a #4.

So....that gives you Clay and OV....yeah....let me do some backflips over that!

Some people around here seem to think that just because someone gets on the field they are a good pick...they aren't! It just means we have so little talent any idiot can make it on the field for our team.

Your reasoning was used when describing Pat White when he was drafted.

Highlight reels mean squat.

It's a cycle that is repeated here every year. New player comes and a lot people pick one of two camps, hate him from the start or overstate his potential. Then the player plays one or two years and those who hated him from the start are going to hate him till they die and those overstated the players potential start to turn on him and call him a disappointment or bust because the player didn't meet their overvalued expectations. Then a new kid comes into town and the cycle starts over.

Larsen is going to push Pouncey out as starter is this years reach,IMO.

That type of bat**** nonsense is what drives me crazy.

You undervalue some of those picks. Shocked you would do such a thing? Not really.

That was funny, thanks. :)

I've read many a post from many a poster on how good James, Landry, Turner, and even Lynch, Tripp, and undrafted Larson will be this year. According to some, we will have at least 3 starters at some point this season. I'm confused on why we are so enamored with draft picks expectations.

It cannot be based on NFL daft history, and certainly not on Dolphins draft history. So, is it just wishful thinking or something else?

I think it's because we're left with little choice. This team was built so poorly in recent years that we have to rely on rookies in basic positions with little-to-no depth. Our rookies this year, with the exception of Landry, can't hide behind talented players like Jordan did (and continues to do).

it is called "hope" and it keeps a lot of people alive.

Then why not have more hope in showing the same for FA, and players coming off bad years or, is too much hope a bad thing?

Besides one or two plays I actually don't find Landry's highlight reel to be very exciting at all. If he starts I think he could have a big year for a rookie however thanks to his catchers mitts for hands, and most of his work will come right within Tannehill's wheelhouse- the short stuff over the middle.

I'm not trying to take anything away from Landry or any rookie, hope the all play great. However, I think we can put together highlights of Matthews last year which would be more impressive, considering where it was done.
