Philbin and Ireland were "not entirely convinced" he would beat out Moore (Flynn)

He didn't ignore Philbin's opinion, which is why Matt Flynn was brought in and offered a contract in the first place. It's Ireland's job to lay out the details of the contract and make an offer based on HIS assessment in combination with HIS "plan" and vision for the team under HIS budget, not Joe Philbin's.

What do you think Philbin's opinion of Aaron Rodgers would be? Ireland would lowball Rodgers just the same.

Some of you already had your minds made up that if Miami signed Flynn, it was because of Philbin... and if they didn't it was because of Philbin.

Flynn isn't a Seahawk because of Joe Philbin, he's a Seahawk because of Ireland's offer.
if they could afford $8 million for Alex Smith, they could have done the same for Flynn, especially if the guy that knew him better than anyone else said he was worth it.

.
Ross has spoken on the subject multiple times. He wants a wide open offense. He gushes about Marino. We just got a HC associated with a premiere QB and a potent passing attack. If Ireland doesn't get this team a QB who can deliver what Ross (and many of the fans) want out of their team--a franchise QB who gives us a chance year in and year out, it's at his own peril.

This further's my point. Ireland has no idea what a quarterback is worth for better or worse. I believe Ross stepped in and made Ireland withdraw that ridiculous offer just like he had to last year with Kyle Orton.

Harbaugh was able to turn Alex Smith into a decent game manager and cap his mistakes by eliminating sight adjustments. He could take Matt Moore and get to the NFC Championship Game with the 49ers defense and running game to lean on because Moore is a decent quarterback.

wellI definately dont believe much that comes out of Ireland's mouth he is just a spin machine but who really knows. Funny though some people would be talking smack about the jets if they signed Garrard but because we do it its a smart move.

Why did we bring him in? After he had just visited with another interested team, we offer him less than we would David Garrard? What sense does that make? Cle has a need at QB, but they didn't feel Flynn was the right option so they didn't waste everyone's time by pursuing him. If our opinion of him is so low, why did these professionals waste their time? It wasn't to help a brother out with his Sea contract considering the stories of our lowballing got out. Unless completely oblivious to reality why would we even approach him with the idea that we'd sign him to a backup's contract? It seems more likely our FO got beat by Seattle's.

Because the lazy media assumed just because Flynn was backup QB for GB that Philbin must want him. They had no idea if he liked him or not. Then once the idea was planted into the hype machine and put pressure on the FO to bring him in. Philbin/Ireland might have looked at him for low money but didnt want to risk paying him starter money. So if the could get him on a low ball offer why not?

A pencil-neck sportswriter who's never been within 6 feet of a mouthpiece and a jock strap in his life has never molded my point of view about anything.

I see things for what they are. I don't need to find out who's full of nonsense and drivel, you do. I already know.

Alright chief, you da-man.

Jeff Ireland may not know what a franchise QB is but I'm definitely sure that Mike Sherman does and so does Philbin and I'm 100% sure that Ireland didn't overrule them, it was a collective agreement not to overpay for a career back up who hasn't been the "man" of his team since he was a Senior in High School.

Well like I said I doubt we will ever know the truth. obviously philbin liked him because if he was garbage why would we bring him in to talk when philbin has watched him for years.
This team wanted anybody but moore but had to settle for thier fourth choice. Obviously philbin knew that Flynn would not sign for 5 million a year when a better offer would definately be out there. THE SEAHAWKS GOT flynn for a very reasonbble contract a little more than we payed a safety that has never been close to a pro bowler himself.

For the millionth time, just because they do not think him a franchise QB he still has value to a team. It's not freaking rocket science!

What you are implying is simply nonsense. Teams bring players in for all kinds of reasons. Leverage, public good will, all kinds of things. Put the irrational, media driven hate aside, and think about it.

Bingo, in spades!

Flynn won national championship at LSU. Beat out number 2 draft pick Brian Brohm for backup to Rodgers. He does not have alot of game experience but his first 2 games were spectacular.

Bingo, in spades!

My opinion has nothing to do with the media its my own rationalization, you really think that Ireland is going to come out and say yea we wanted him, blah blah blah, You notice he did not say one word about Alex Smith who turned down more money from us to stay in SF. None of us know what goes on with these negiotians and I could care less about what he has to say in a press conference because its just gm speak. Especially the crap about Moore , yea you like Moore so much you were going to give the starting job to Alex Smith. It was a waste of time to bring Flynn here if he was going to be offered 5 million especially when you payed that much to part time starter Richard friggin Marshall. I just hope somehopw this gm that has never drafted a good qb anywhere can luck up and get tanneyhill and turns out good.

Essentially you agree with Miami's front office that Alex Smith is $6 million a year better as a starting quarterback than Matt Flynn is from here on out? You're about to get the red-a** hung on you again right beside Jeff Ireland....

Ya, that Ireland, he's so bad, Smith wanted to go back to the 9'ers. Who are on the verge of going to the Super Bowl. As usual D, you amaze me.

You can continue to spew the conspiracy theories about why the Dolphins brought in Flynn. I'll just stick to common sense. I know, I know, sense is not common...

The man does something so obviously right, and ppl still bitch and moan about it. Dolphin fans...

Well three straight losing seasons and not having much cap room is right really. I never said i wanted Flynn but Im not the idiot that brought him into town knowing damn well that he would not sign for 5 million a year, esp when you sign richard Friggan Marshall to more than that. Glad you brought up SF a team that was worse than us that jumped ahead of us based on the good decisions of thier gm and new coach. The coach that Ireland helped to make sure we couldnt sign because he was too stupid to advise his owner that hey you still have a coach but yea ireland is pure genius
