Miami currently lacks a true No. 1 receiver. But according to Dolphins first-year head coach Joe Philbin, it’s not a big concern in the West Coast offense. "Part of the philosophy of the offense is to have balance. We want our quarterbacks typically to have what we call progression reads where they’re not necessarily isolated on one specific individual. With that being said, we’re going to play to our hot hand. We’re going to certainly strive to create mismatches and take advantage of the guys that we do have. But the offense, once we install the passing game, is not necessarily built upon, 'OK you’re the No. 1 guy, you’re the No. 2 guy, you’re the No. 3 guy.' As we put the plays together for the quarterback in his mind there’s a progression of who’s the first receiver, who’s the second receiver, who’s the third receiver."Similar to the offense Philbin orchestrated in Green Bay, the Dolphins plan to throw for the football to the open receiver, regardless of who it is. For the most part there was no star system with the Packers, and the passing game was arguably the NFL's best. http://espn.go.com/blog/afceast/post/_/id/40417/philbin-not-worried-about-miamis-wrs

I completely agree with him. But I would be VERY worried about the QB position. You can spread the ball around in the WC offense, but only if you have a QB good enough (and enough time) to find the open WR regardless of who that is.

I think Reggie Bush will be Great in this type of offense but I am not sold for one second on our current QB's and WR's being able to run it effectively. If Blackmon somehow slips to #8 we have to take him IMO. I'd be all aboard with Blackmon/Weeden in the 1st two rounds of the draft. I don't think that's how it will go by any means though, I see something more like Ingram in round 1 and WR's and OL in the next couple of rounds. I don't think they will even adress the QB position in the draft(other than a late rounder) unless they take Tannehill in the 1st round and at this point I have to believe Ireland is not stupid enough to do that.

matt moore can throw , problem with him is his clumsyness, if philbin can fix that somehow on matt moore we might have found a hidden gem in moore. The more i hear from phibin the more i like the guy, finally a head coach with some common sense something sparano lacked. Another thing is he seems to respect the fans, something sparano didnt care for. I guess now we all know why marshall was really traded. Its all making sense now, 3rd round picks in a draft like this might be a great thing for the fins. Well an extra 3rd for this year atleast, still a very valuable pick. Maybe get us another safety with it, or fix the OL.

We dont take him, we trade down for more picks, blackmon will never fit our system. Hes the type of receiver that is going to call for the ball and when he doesnt get it, he will throw fits. Something philbin has already said hes not interested in those players.

I wasn't aware of Blackmon being that type of player but I think he would catch a Lot of passes in this type of offense. Philbin said there isn't going to be a #1, #2, #3 WR etc. but he also said there would be progressions of 1st, 2nd, 3rd receiver etc. so what does that really tell you? Do you really think your best WR isn't going to be the "1st receiver" or 1st option more often than others? I don't care what anybody says... Brian Hartline wouldn't catch as many passes as Brandon Marshall would have or any other legit #1 WR. Philbins answer here is pretty much just coach speak since we don't have a true #1 WR right now.

All of that being said though... it wouldn't surprise me one bit if Miami passed on Blackmon to take a trade down and aquire more picks.

Matt moore looks like a top 10 quarterback until the oline collapses... get him an oline, bring in Jake scott and our offense will be fine this year.

I think we need to let go of the sparano philosophy and give philbin a shot. Sparano wanted a big name receiver like marshall and how did it work out for him? not very good. Marshall dropped way too many touchdown passes to call himself an elite WR. Lets take a dominant defender in the first and let philbin do his thing from there.

This makes me worry about Hartline's future with the team. He is great at making big plays downfield, but I am not certain he can be a consistent medium-range WCO receiver. Hopefully he can, I love the guy.

Dont buy this...Theres no way Philbin can be satisfied with our WR corp.

Bess and Hartline are #3 wr's and Philbin wants 3 #2 wr's.

Sparano has nothing to do with any of this. Every team in the NFL would love to have a big talented WR who produces on game days. The only point I was trying to make is that a very good WR in this offense would catch a bunch of passes and yes... more than the current WR's we have on the roster. If you are truly content with the likes of Hartline, Bess and Gates as your top 3 options at WR then ok I guess I can't argue with you but I for one am not. I don't disagree with getting a dominant defensive player though, I really just want Miami to get the best player available, especially with that #8 overall. If the BPA happens to be a pass rusher or a LB like Kuechly then I'd be very happy with the pick. If Blackmon slips to #8 though I can't see many scenerios where he isn't the BPA.

Disagree.

I think Bess will absolutely flourish in this O ... Hartline will be OK too. The problem is - they simply aren't close to enough. We need more. Especially a burner. Maybe Gates can be that guy, maybe not. Time will tell, but I definitely look for us to take a couple more WR's in the mid rounds.

Tedd Ginn Family available?? Wes Welker would be nice, Oh we traded him, and Marshall too. Our only 2 Good Receivers are currently with other teams...

Thinks Bess, Hartline, and lot will flourish too. Plus if we invest some good picks in the Oline, and solidify the right side, our WR corp will get a ton more positive plays due to Moore getting more time to throw and all.

Great point man. Gawd I hated that about Sparano- it was like pulling teeth listening to all that fluff with the media. It was almost like he was insecure and defensive, where as Philbin is coming across as a great teacher and great with explaining stuff.
