Philbin shows off dance moves at teams kickoff luncheon

he really is changing a little, i wonder if the tragedy that happened to his family just before he signed with us was a reason for this, green bay players always liked him for his demeanor, maybe it just took him 2 years to kind of get back to his old self

This has been my thinking as well. I believe he has been in a funk after his sons passing and he is coming out of his shell now.

like i wrote exact a post before yours....i don't know if you have a kid, but imagine losing it to death by drowning

That was in 2011, though. I think he just tried a different approach to managing the team and it wasn't a good one.

Philbin's approach would probably have worked better if we were an establish playoff team with solid vet locker room leaders like Green Bay was. Maybe we'll get there soon and he can stay above the noise so to speak.
Landry and several others managed to do it with the stoic approach. Lazor can be the ra ra guy that Sherman was not so that may help.

Yes, and we forget that, that he was part of a large, talented organization and he had a very narrow, specific role in it. He blended in. Ross knew what he wanted, he wanted a "young don shula." So he went after Harbaugh. It didn't happen. We ended up with Philbin, just because he's from Green Bay. But there was no shock and awe in Green Bay when the guy with the three-ring binder left. There was no sentiment that omg what a loss. Everyone there was happy for him, said he put in his dues, he deserves it, etc...

You're right, Philbin is good with organizing, planning, scheduling, etc...and would have worked well in another established organization. He's not a trailbazer and shouldn't have been expected to do that. But it would have helped if he brought some Green Bay people with him and he didn't do that, some unwritten rule or something over there. The support cast he build in Miami left a lot to be desired - Sherman, Turner, etc. Plus he wasn't a people-person. Neither was Sherman, or Ireland. I don't imagine it was a lot of fun working in that building.
