Philbin Supporters: Make Your Case

Well, I guess you could say being in the "playoff race" with a horrendous offensive line was a positive. I also think there were signs of developing a Green Bay type passing game. That could materialize with better offensive line play. I think Miami started games well which speaks to preparation. However, the team couldn't finish with speaks to lack of in-game adjustments and also having a young team.

That said, I'd be ready to move on. When I first became a fan what really impressed me was the passion the team played with. We need a coach who can bring that. I know Tom Landry was more like Joe Philibin personality-wise and that worked out for Dallas. But Landry was also one of the great innovators in the sport. I haven't seen that from Phillibin.

The biggest problem with the Dolphins is that they have become soft. It's painful to watch a team that can't block or tackle. It's painful to watch a team that fails repeatedly to convert short yardage situations. Now if this is due to a deliberate choice or scheme by Philbin then I would be concerned. Without knowing, I am assuming that it is Ireland that is drafting soft, finesse players. The prototypical example is drafting Jonathan Martin instead of Alshon Jeffrey, a physical receiver who catches the ball with his hands. Those are the type of players you win with. With the exception of Grimes, Ireland brought in a bunch of soft free agents with Wallace, Wheeler, Keller and Ellerbee.

This is a valid criticism, Awsi predicted Philbin would come here and try to duplicate the Green Bay offense even though we don't have the QB to make it work and seems clear to me thats exactly what we're doing. I think we'll find out more next season if he can make this system work in Miami but we saw a glimpse of why it might not work this season--when you become one dimensional the QB takes a **** load of punishment. Plus, I'm not sold that Tannehill will ever be in the same league as an Aaron Rodgers.

You should be pretty near sold that just about any QB who enters the league won't be, given Rodgers's career. It's extremely unlikely that Tannehill or any other QB for that matter will perform that well at any point in his career.

Here's what I would do. Since we don't know what problems are Ireland's fault and what Philbin really thought or wanted to do, let's do this:

A.) Blow it up.
B.) If you're not going to fire Ireland, give Joe complete veto power over all personnel decisions and operations. Let Joe make his bed. No more GM excuses. If we have a **** season next year, blow it up Texans style and fire everyone so we get a head start on the following season.
