Philbin's Failure

Terrible coaching and game plan all 3 areas of the game. I am not defending Philbin because I think sitting on it is loser ball, but it was the missed blocks, assignments, bad passes, etc that led him to that decision.

The head coach doesn't even trust Tannehiill...and I don't trust him...we're screwed...

I'll blame Philbin when the players start making greater than 50% of the easy plays that are there to be made. Until then it's on the players. Plays like Wallace being wide open down the field tell me the coaches put the players in position to succeed, you have to execute. This team, especially on offense, doesn't execute for ****.

Actually the next time Lamar Miller drops an easy pass I'll blame Philbin for not removing all passes to Miller from the playbook. Again, not his fault his RB can't catch.

I agree with the decision. Halftime couldn't have happened soon enough. A huge sack and possibly fumble, or a huge turnover would likely have happened. What out there inspired you to want them to go for it? Offense was tired and ineffective. The coaching blunder was the inability to make the halftime adjustments sooner. Whatever is going on during halftime to cause the turnaround has to happen in the 1st qrtr

Part of a coach's job is to be in tune with the psyche/mood of this team. It was obvious that the offense was shell shocked by the Bills defense and their energy level. RT was obviously rattled and was playing poorly.
They were down only 9 points.
The team needed to be settled down and adjustments had to be made. There was very little statistical chance that the offense could move the ball and score points before halftime. If RT throws an int while under duress or takes a sack/fumble and allows the Bills to get anothner another cheap score before halftime the morale of the team (and effectively the game) is lost.
Philbin knew they would get the ball 1st. He had to settle the team down, get them focused and make adjustments.
He was proven correct with the 1st drive to open the 2nd half. Unfortunately, his QB failed to make an accurate throw on back to back plays inside the red zone and they had to settle for a FG.
With adequate QB play the score should have been 16-14 heading into the 4th quarter with all the momentum on the side of the Phins.
Unfortunately, the defense allowed a long drive with very little resistance on the ensuing drive and the game was essentially over. The team also could not overcome all the special team gaffes.
Miller gained the 2nd 1st down of the drive at the 41 yard line with 8 seconds left before halftime and no timeout. I can see conservative at the 12 yard line, but after gaining 29 yards and 2 first downs you have to call timeout and take a shot. At least a hail marry from 41. Might even been time to throw a deep out and kick a fg

Playing scared. Kind of like the last 2 weeks last year. Need some Dudes with some balls, fire, and leadership. Don't feel that from our QB, or Head Coach. Starting to feel better about Lazor and maybe give Moore one more shot. Dude has some fire. Tannehill the last 4 games looks very Chad Henne like for reals

if your offense is laying a goose egg, you try to take advantage of every opportunity to score. doesn't matter if it's two minutes or twenty minutes left in a half. Attack, attack, attack, never go down without swinging. you miss one hundred percent of all the shots you don't take. ****ing cowards way to do otherwise.

Thank you for this info. Then I think Philbin should have sought one first down using up the clock followed by taking some shots down field with about one minute left in the half. That is certainly fair criticism. I would not have attempted 3 passes at the 2:21 mark as that would leave the Bills with too much time if unsuccessful.

Buffalo only had one timeout remaining. They had used two on their previous possession.

OK, let's discuss how we are going to crush the Chiefs (yeah, right). I guess we can move on. It is Monday after a brutal loss. No point discussing it. Whatever.

Philosophical differences do not equate to failings. You are simply stating an opinion. Coaches often play the odds when making strategic decisions. Ive already outlined why I think he made the correct decision. The phins were able to generate 1st downs running because Buffalo was playing to defend the pass.
The team's confidence was shot and they needed to regroup. That was obvious to anyone watching the game. They had a chance to pull it out going into the 4th quarter, but the defense broke and the ST's collapsed. Few teams could have overcome so many unforced errors.

This is bull. You destroy a team's confidence more by showing them that you flat-out have zero confidence in their ability to not F things up.

Philbin's showed every member of the offense that he didn't respect their abilities, their preparation, or their mental toughness. He also showed Lazor that he didn't trust him to call plays that wouldn't lead to disaster.

Lazor's play calling was very questionable in the first half anyway so I didn't trust him to call plays then either. Take the half and regroup.

You could have said wait until halftime to regroup beginning in the first quarter. Maybe we should have had Tannehill take a knee on every play of the second quarter. At least that would mean he didn't throw any pick 6s.

I could have said that but I didn't.

I think Philbin's decision, right or wrong, underscores the importance of Moreno to the offense. Clearly players such as Tannehill and Miller have not earned his trust.

Joe Philbin has NEVER been in tune with the psyche of this team. That has been his greatest criticism and his fatal flaw. He did not have the team ready to play in a hostile enviornment, and he made no noticeable adjustments at half. He was completely MIA during the Richie mess, hired his friend and was forced to fire him and stupidly let Bush walk because he was a vocal leader, and he continues to misread and mis-lead this team. He is still very robotic and emotionless and doesn't instill confidence in his players by allowing them to attempt to drive at the end if the 1st half. IMHO he's not up to the job and continues to prove he cannot lead this team anywhere, much less to the playoffs.
