Philbin's first decision tells the story

Not a fan of Philbin but the most positive thing he has done with his time in Miami is quickly cut loose that brain dead moron Chad Johnson before he could totally get out of hand. Never wanted anything to do with that dopey act.

The failure rate of QB's taken in round 1 is at best 50%. It's way worse in rounds 2-7. Just draft another one. Tannehill will make a nice backup somewhere. Move on.

It's funny to me that people blame someone for things they have no control over. IE, drafting Tannehill. It was ultimately on Ireland. Blame Philbin for this 'leadership' crap all you want, but you cant pin any drafting mistakes on the coach.

Will you stop bumping this ridiculous thread. The situation you're describing is a pitch perfect catch-22.

He needs a QB but can't utilize his good friend Mike Sherman to get an opinion on Tannehill? He'd be weak to even ask the guy that drafted Aaron Rodgers his opinion on the QB he just coached for years? That was supposed to be a pretty huge advantage for us over other teams. So according to you Tannehill should have been taken off our draft board else it looks weak.

On the flip side if we didn't take him and Tannehill turned out to be the best QB in the draft you'd be calling Philbin an idiot for not listening to the guy that drafted Aaron Rodgers and recruited Johnny Manziel...

Well I started the thread, so replying to comments isn't really bumping. It interests me. I have mentioned it many times, so you are not off base really, so no offence. Let's say it this way. I don't like how Philbin gave Sherman so much; say, input and power. I don't think we would have drafted RT if Sherman was not in the fold. If it were me, I would have drafted QB's every year to we hit, especially the years we had high picks. I understand your point Roy, as Sparono would say," I really do". I hope Tannehill succeeds, I have not written him off. Philbin has major question marks. Finland out.

I've said all along that Philbin showed his "lack of leadership" and "lack of personal conviction of thought", at the very beginning of his hiring in Miami. If you really know what you are doing as a leader, you set the tone of your style and you fully understand the most important things you do in your position. To turn Miami around he clearly needed to be a strong leader. He also needed to select his coordinators and his QB. A common lesson in the NFL is don't pick in the draft based on Potential, pick guys that have shown success.

He picked a former boss (Sherman) and friend to be his coordinator (totally suspect move) and then went with the QB that coordinator suggested (Even worse). I mean unless both men on their own, thought that it was the best thing to do, to reach in the draft on an unproven QB.

Philbin failed here. He never should have picked (Sherman's Guy) Tannehill unless he was sure fire. I held out hope that Philbin would escape such a personally horrid business decision and Tannehill would turn into a gem. Well he is not turning out that way. If Philbin would not have been forced into firing Sherman, he would still have him here too. It was a terrible move for him personally to let Sherman so strongly affect his first massive decision with Miami. Non verbally he basically either said, "I'm not up to the task of selecting the QB" or "I'm going to let my old boss decide".

Now, Philbin is being noncommittal on if "Tannehill is one of the best 46 guys to help the team win in London"? What a lousy comment from the leader. There are so many better ways he could communicate with the same results. What are you going to take your 3rd and 2nd QB and leave Tannehill at home? Learn to speak Joe. Enough of the "say nothing coach speak". You need to also step it up a few notches. Hey Joe, everyone is watching. Show us your personality.

He really is good at proving he doesn't have the leadership.

The way he handled the two minute drill before the half in Buffalo was also terrible leadership. The way he looked on Hard Knocks, not knowing the pulse in the locker room in 2013 (and 2014), gum wrapper stories, speeches on cards instead of from the heart, wow.

I think he looked bad straight out of the gate.

Seriously now, can the people that like him list a few positive things he has done?... because I don't see it.

Dude, its all setup. Its mind games by the top so it can spark and UNITE the players to back Ryan. Guess what? It worked and you will see a different Ryan this Sunday! Book it!

Great. I hope you are right. They can hit 2-2 and regroup. I don't think Miami is going too far, but I hope they do and always hope they win.

I don't like Philbin as a coach at all but your take on hiring Sherman as coordinator is only wrong in retrospect.
Sherman was a former NFL coach that had had some success and was pretty respected as an offensive mind.
He had worked with Sherman and had knowledge of how good he was as a coach. On the surface this was a shrewd move and made sense at the time.
I don't think that Sherman could have convinced Ireland or anybody else to draft Tannehill unless they also saw something.
You could argue that neither of the coordinators he hired were good hires. Not sure if the Tannehill pick works out but hell last year we wasted two draft picks on a player that will probably have no impact in Dion Jordan.
I think when we move on from him we will be a better team but without looking back in retrospect I cannot fault him for hiring a OC with the experience and familiarity of Sherman.

Some of you are the equivalent to teenage girls gossiping about drama in football form.

He said this. Tannehill said that. Sherman's a bitch. Philbin woulda shoulda coulda... :tantrum: Whooptie ****ing doo.
