Philip Merling on the Trade Block

I dont understand why they didnt try to sign Zach Miller and other FA TEs if they are now interested in a second TE...

I've mentioned a trade for Bennett to a couple of my friends for about the past week. We all know how much the FO loves the Cowgirls. I could def see us going after Bennett. I think Carlson is the better overall player though.

Bennett sucks. He's had plenty of opportunities and has **** all over himself. His insane interviews are the only reason anybody should want him here.
 
Slimm do you think Baltimore would deal Dickson though...especially after losing Heap ? I know they have Pitta as well whom many liked around here
 
we have Fasano and Epps, the shelves are bare in the TE position here.
 
Why the hell would anyone give up anything for Merling?

I'll be suprised if Miami can get a quality TE straight up in a trade for Merling, but I'd love to see if Baltimore would be willing to trade Ed Dickson. I'd also like to see the Jets cut Jeff Cumberland and Miami scoop him up. That's a guy Jeff Ireland needs to keep an eye on...

Exactly. I think Merling might be the most mentioned name in every trade scenario ever brought up here. Why? because he sucks in a position that we have good depth. Nobody wants him. We'd be lucky to get a very late round pick or a practice squad project. Second string TE? Not likely. Besides, we already have one of those starting.

I seriously doubt it, probably just wishful thinking on my part. I don't think Baltimore would trade Dickson or Pitta for Phillip Merling, but Jeff should try it and make him hang the phone up in his face.

The day Jeff Ireland gets over on Ozzie Newsome isn't something I'd bet on living to see...

I'll go with the former. There was no attempt (that we know of, I guess) in the draft or in FA in a year with a good number of quality TE's available.
 
Nobody is going to offer us anything decent for Meling. A 2nd TE is more valuable than a backup DE anyway. I didnt hear the interview, but this could be more of Omar's BS.
 
Forget Merling for a second, if you can get ANYTHING of value for him in a trade, get it and don't look back....

The point is, I think there's subject to be a TE cut from one of these other teams, or a guy they'll try to stash on the practice squad that could help Miami. Again, Jeff Cumberland is a guy I've always liked since he came out of college...

You might be able to find a way to get Virgil Green or Julius Thomas from Denver just going off the top of my head...
