Philip Merling on the Trade Block

If Parcells were here he would have traded for John Carlson already....white TE from Notre Dame....he would have been drooling.

The roadblock here is that Carlson isn't a Cowboy... otherwise you were right on track...

if you want bennett from dallas i don't think its 3-4 end they want or need...its cb...if we parted with a fringe corner they may bite...but bennetts been a malcontent since he got to dallas and i've heard his work ethic blows...talented but lacks the drive to make the leap

i'm sure he's on the radar though...given how much we love anything that wears that star it seems

i bet they'd trade us bennett for jimmy wilson right now...but i wouldn't do it...maybe they'd take will allen for him though...they need help at cb BAD

not likely...he's running with the ones in a lot of packages...he's impressed

Yes, already established that Thomas isn't likely and Virgil Green might be more accessible... but I think even he's a stretch.

You have to pursue these things to make 'em happen... nobody is going to drop these players off at your doorstep. We'd all probably get a good laugh at some of the trade proposals that have been put together by teams if we knew about 'em...

i've heard green bays been happy with what they've seen of dj williams also...so one of those other guys at te on that roster is likely to come free...quarless is probably available but i doubt you'd be able to trade merling for him...

They probably wouldn't want Wilson. The guy hasn't shown enough yet. But Nolan Carroll? That might make them sit up and take notice.

giants just lost starting cb terrell thomas for the year with a torn acl...they may be in the market for a cb...may want will allen back in trade...just throwin it out there...god knows i don't want any of their te's they have right now...pascoe would make a solid #3 blocking te but he's not something i'd ever trade anything for

pretty sure we will get one of the gb tes

hmmm...maybe...carrolls frustrating the hell out of me...dallas probably would like to work with those tools...i'm just very afraid we give up on that kid too early and we regret it big time...but the lightbulbs got to come on some time...i think personally i'd give him thru this year and camp next year...if there's no significant progress than maybe i trade him...barring getting a offer i can't refuse

Me too. But that's why he has value. If you wait another year and he doesn't develop then he loses the value he might have now after a promising rookie season to go along with some great tools.

If Todd Bowles and company think he could turn into a starting quality player then you don't do it, of course. But if they think he probably won't... then this is the moment you pull the trigger.

At the end of the day, though, a Merling for Evan Moore (who I haven't seen too much of but have heard some good things) is a much safer deal assuming you can pull it off. But Bennett has big time ability. Not quite Jermichael Finley but something like that.

Any TE that you can rely on to catch would be a good pickup

i don't see finley like ability in bennett...if i did i'd fly carroll and another piece to dallas on my own dime to get that done...evan moore isn't he killin it in camp with the browns...didn't i see him make an over the shoulder rediculous td catch in the browns last game while sliding...i can get down with that guy but i don't think the browns will part with him...if its the guy i'm thinking of...ben watson and him i think they'd want to keep for their young qb mccoy

i'd rather try and trade will allen to dallas or someone for a te...he's a stop gap for us he'd be a stop gap for a team that needs cb help bad...like dallas...there's no upside for us with allen...there's still a lot of upside with carroll

will allen for bennett...its worth taking that chance to me

I didn't say he was Finley. I said he was something like that. Which I think he is. Lesser, obviously. Not as hard of a worker. But he has a similar overall physical skill set.

It's hard for me to imagine the Browns keeping Moore and Jordan Cameron. You need at least one blocker among your tight ends and if they keep Watson, Moore and Cameron they have none.

I don't think Will Allen has much, if any, trade value. There's no guarantee he could even pass a physical right now, and older corners who've missed as much time as he's missed with knee injuries? Put yourself in another team's shoes. What are you willing to give up for a guy like that?

For what it's worth, I don't think Merling has much value, either. Other teams can look at our defensive line depth and Merling's contract as easy as we can.

i haven't seen bennett ever threaten a seam or be able to split out and make a play against a cb or safety anywhere near like i have jermichael finley...but i admit that i flat out love finleys game...that kids rediculous

awfully poor mans finley if that if you ask me...anyways...you might be right about will allen...but whats bennetts value too...i think its severely impacted cause teams know he's such a pain in the ***...bad attitude bad work ethic just not what you want really in the lockerroom...i know i wouldn't trade anything more than a 5th for bennett right now...i'll take my chances elsewhere with anything higher than that...could i get a 5th like value for will allen from a team like dallas who's desperate at cb and in must win now mode...i think its possible...not outright impossible i'd say...but if he doesn't suit up and play and look right saturday its all a moot point...no one will even take the chance

i'm with you on merling...if there's any value there its late...very late...personally i don't think you get more than a 7th return for him

I will believe it when It happens.....I doubt very much that Omar has any inside info.....he just throws stuff against the wall and hopes it sticks........sometimes he guess right and sometimes he doesnt.....
