Phins sign Naanee to 1yr deal

Don't even start this nonsense. Just like "Suck for Luck", Miami is never going to be in that conversation. Teams have to be REAL bad to have a chance for the #1 overall pick, and that is not Miami.

The best part about possibly drafting Tannehill in the first round is that it will END all this nonsense about rooting against the team for a QB next year.

Why?

Besides Marshall, who is no miracle signing...tell me who impresses you about our FA pickups? Hicks? Garrard? Naanee?

we can go in to camp with what 80 something players? and we cut down to 53. we are going to continue to sign guys, it doesnt mean much right now but cool signing.

Philbin said that he wants to build through the draft and doesn't plan to use free agency to build the team. This isn't guessing or speculation, this came straight from his mouth.

this means wallace, pruitt,or moore is gone.
Like I said in the other thread about Naanee, the Dolphins only have three "Locks" to make the team at WR. Bess, Hartline and Gates. The team is likely going to carry between 5-6 WRs, so they have 2-3 spots to fill. They likely will draft a WR, so Bess Hartline, Gates and the rookie will be four, meaning they have 1-2 open spots. Those spots will go to the winner(s) of the competition between Naanee, Wallace, Moore, Pruitt, Hogan and any other draft picks/undrafted free agents.

You said that maybe Philbin is telling Ireland who he wants during this FA....I didn't bring up draft, just that if Philbin is picking the guys in FA....Im concerned. Then you say, you believe he wants to build through the draft.

Why did you question me when you don't believe what you said? Or do you think all holes are being covered in the draft?

I am saying that the idea apparently is to build the team through the draft, and that free agency is not really a major part of philosophy. Free Agency apparently is to just add depth, create competition at positions and fill in some holes. The players they target in the draft are going to be the bread and butter of the team, just like the Packers.

The draft is where the majority of our starters are going to be coming from, you can see that by all the one year deals the team is giving out. These low key veteran free agents are holdovers until they can get the young guys going at full steam.

As for Philbin picking the players, I think he has a strong say in who the team should sign. Not saying that he is running things, but when they bring guys in I bet he tells Ireland what he thinks and how much he would like to see them be part of the team. Ireland is not just picking up players and telling Philbin to "make it work", there is some collaboration between the two.

It could just be me, but I don't see the point in complaining about signing a player for a ONE YEAR deal... Save your breath to bitch about something in the draft. This signing is not worth bickering over.

Nowhere did either of us say anything about the draft until I questioned what FA you liked that was brought in. I asked a simple question, you went your own way with it while changing the subject. We all know he wants to build through the draft, that wasn't what we were talking about.

The problem is, morale is at a low...and any news that comes in is about one of these one year player signings that do nothing but help the claim that Ireland cannot bring decent FAs here.

We used to be Dallas Cowboys South. Now we are becoming Carolina Panthers South. We just signed Matt Moores WR from his practice squad. LOL

We could sign Megatron for the league minimum and there would be people on here complaining lol!

Miami likes to double on positions of need. Hopefully this signing doesn't make them think they should steer away from the plan

In my opinion, this may mean we will be drafting one WR and looking to draft a TE vice 2 WRs in this draft. The draft probably did not have sufficient picks to draft 2 WR and a TE and a QB and OL for offensive needs.
