Phins to resume talks with Scott this week, plus more phins buzz

If we manage to redo Long, Hartline and Wake's contracts to free up some cap room, I think Scott will be signed. As it stands now it would be very tough to sign him and the rookies we draft.

That sword cuts both ways. They know former canes better than anyone else and they routinely PASS on them.

I am convinced that character/sociocultural issues play a FAR bigger role in Dolphin personnel moves than any of us would dare to believe.

I submit that South Florida's lifestyle and culture is radioactive to guys with small children/families. The guys who aren't in that category are too easily caught up in the "sobe" vibe and I think the Dolphins know that. Don Shula seemed to recognize this effect in the latter stages of his career, especially after he was burned several times (Don Reese, Randy Crowder, Mike Charles, etc) Put Brandon Marshall squarely in this category too. I have long suspected THIS was what cost us Brees behind the scenes. He didn't want to raise kids in SFla.

The Dolphins have tried pretty hard to distance themselves from the Thug U aura of the canes, and RIGHTFULLY so.
I disagree with that almost completely. I'm a Miami native and UM alum so I've had a close look at the situation. Firstly, I don't believe the Dolphins have done a particularly good job in recent years of distinguishing themselves as a team with high character standards. We willingly traded for BMarsh when he was already a known lunatic. We signed Joey Porter to big money. Our 7th round pick last year beat murder charges. We have at least one arrest a year (Misi being the latest). Going back to JJ there's a long line of rap sheets and scumbags from Cecil to the younger Vick. So let's put that aside.

Location had absolutely no bearing on Brees. It's been widely reported that Culpepper was a choice (a terrible, terrible choice). Brees would happily have lived down here. New Orleans doesn't exactly fill the sociocultural ideal for family rearing. He along with Manning spend offseason time down here. A huge number of athletes live down here even the ones with "good reputations." I've personally met a number of players from the U and not a one of them shot at me. Jimmy Graham is an extremely nice guy. Someone like Shane Battier just chose to come play down here and he is an over the top good man.

The U's reputation is wildly overblown. The campus itself is very quiet and laid back. Populated mainly by rich kids. It's situated in one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in the state. The "sobe vibe" is one of a wealthy tourist attraction. Its wild side doesn't begin to compare to the outright debauchery and criminality I've taken part in around UF and FSU.

This has nothing to do with your post: The girl in your avatar has an amazing ass. That is all.
It has everything to do with that and every one of my posts. All this Dolphins talk is just an excuse for me to stare at her ass.

This is absolutely riddled with ignorance.
Explain it then. Slowly since I'm apparently ignorant. I'm not judging Wilson's guilt or innocence, but it's naive to think it didn't scare some teams away. It's a perceived character issue whether it's valid or not.

LaRon Byrd or Tommy Streeter, maybe Benjamin?

What do the Fins have against UM?

Even if that were true, which it isn't as Mogwai eloquently pointed out; such a policy certainly has been effective in the W-L columns, eh?

I thought we were in good shape cap wise going into this offseason? What happened?

Im all for players coming from the U, but i wouldn't want to short change ourself by not taking the best player available. From the history it do seem that the fins organization has overlooked players coming oit of the U. I think if they lose some of the politics and draft players based on performance and a little less social aspect the fin can turn into a power house.

Scott should already have been signed. He ranked 12th out of the 64 starting guards in the NFL last season. He would be the best guard on our roster if we sign him. We need to stop farting around and get him signed!!!

Every time I watch "The U" and hear Shockey say, 'If you put all our guys on one team, we would every year', it gives me chills because I know it's true. Man, the Dolphins need to get some South Florida talent. Got 3 receivers that we could take from the U.

The Phins have more problems than not drafting UM players...
