Pitta signs 5 year Deal...Cross off Monroe

Franchise Tag at the least for Monroe...

I don't know that the Ravens would want to tag Monroe. Last I heard they wanted to offer him somewhere in the neighborhood of $8 million a year...the tag would cost them $12-$13 million. Remember they had to let a lot of guys leave because of the Flacco contract so they kind of have to rebuild. If they have $25 million in space and they tag Monroe that leaves them with $13-$12 million...about $5-$6 million of that will go to their rookie pool and that only leaves them with $6-$8 million to go after any free agents and sign the rest of their own that they want to keep.

They just hired Kubiak as their OC so chances are they'll be moving to the WCO and while Monroe fits, most of their O-line doesn't and they already needed Guard help. They need a free safety, inside linebackers and a big bodied WR to work the middle of the field. They can probably address most of those in the draft but I can see them going after Jairus Byrd in free agency which is going to cost them.

Here's the rookie pool estimates from Jason at overthecap.com The ravens, like us, are only going to have to save under $2M on the cap.

This is going to lead to Miami overpaying for Albert and regretting it in 2 years

#Ravens gave up 2 mid-round picks for Eugene Monroe in October. Huge fail if they lose him. I suspect there's little or no chance of it.

Unfortunately this seems likely.

Wouldn't the Ravens would get compensatory picks for losing Monroe roughly equivalent to what they gave up for him? I don't think the fact that they traded for him is as big a factor as some have made it out to be.

That would depend on the free agents the Ravens sign, the free agents they lose and the contracts involved. No one knows the formula but most know the number of free agents and size of their contracts play a significant factor. Last year we lost Jake Long and Sean Smith but we signed Wallace, Gibson, Ellerbe and Wheeler so we'll get nothing in comp picks.

Well, they would get whatever Monroe is worth in the evaluation of how many picks. I suppose that's a more accurate way to put it. It won't be a total loss in terms of picks if they lose him. It sounds like they'll mostly be resigning their own people in any case, unlike the Dolphins' musical chairs act last year.

I'm still holding out hope that his agent thinks it best they test the market before signing anywhere

Man, I hope they get him off the market so we don't sign him.... Fat Albert too

Is Monroe that good?? They got him for peanuts last year and the tag will be expensive and will likely mean a comparable long-term contract. I guess I missed the bit when Monroe turned into a superstar.

I just want whatever ensures that we don't waste another 1st round draft pick on a lineman.

PLEASE sign someone in FA and keep the option to draft someone who can help move the chains.

seems like there is some hope....

but that may also mean they are close to signing him up long term. I cant see them not making this happen after giving up those draft picks for him. I think that was their plan all along.

Albert # 1 FA at LT if so..

Also Ravens signing Pitta gives us being one step closer to landing Ebron at 19. Still think someone like the Giants or Bills or someone earlier could take him.
