players that had a short stay in miami that you wish we kept

Del Rio (Why the heck was he not made a coach on our staff after he played 1 or 2 of his final years here!?!?!).

Jack Del Rio never even played a game in a Miami uniform. JJ signed him, but then someone by the name of Zach Thomas came out of nowhere and blew everybody away. Once it became clear that Zach would start from day 1, Del Rio realized it was the end of the line for him and retired towards the end of training camp.

Another one I forgot to mention earlier: Keith Jackson. I really liked him, and he made a ton of plays for the Dolphins, but I recall him wanting a ton of money or something, so they traded him for Terrell Buckley, and signed Eric Green to replace Jackson. My, what a bust Green was in Miami. Couldn't even make it to year 2.

Theisman refused to play for us. that's why he went to canada to play in the CFL.

Actually as I recall, Theisman was already playing in Canada when Shula drafted him; that's why Shula got him in the 4th round. Theisman would have played here, but Shula traded his rights away to fill immediate needs.

couldn' think of anybody  , but here's list of people IMO who stayed way too long:

Paul Lankford
William Judson

These guys used to frustrate me to no end. :fire: I mean, guys this bad get replaced ASAP, but we had to deal with them for waaaaaay too long. :shakeno: It was as if Shula was blind to the secondary issues. Anyone remember the 51-45 game in '86. These two made Ken O'Brien look like Dan Marino. I think I'll be bitter about that game for the rest of my life.

As for players I wish could've stayed longer - B.Cox hands down. Sure, he was around for six years, but there was no way JJ should've let this guy go. He was a player from the beginning, and may have made a difference in '96-'98. Oh well ...

Others:
-Tony Martin (he flourished after he left us)
-Irving Fryar (had 2-3 good years left in him .... and we had nothing other than O.J at receiver for years after him)
-Troy Vincent (our first real CB in over a decade when he came)

Tony Martin (i know he left and was actually productive in SD, but was worthless here both times)
Tom Ollivadotti
Tim Ruddy
Jonathan Ogden
Wanny
Our strength and conditioning coach, John Gamble

Add James "butterfingers" Pruitt to that list...

Yeah, we should have kept him around so that he could throw a few more games like he did against Minny.

I saw all I needed to see of him in a Phins uniform.....I'm glad his stay was short.

craig erickson, he was terrific in his last year with the canes !

I'm watchin the Ravens training camp on NFL network back from 2001 and there are two guys I noticed, Qadry Ismail and Leon Searcy. I'm not sure why we got rid of Qadry who went on to have a pair of 1,000 yard seasons after us, but Leon Searcy had talent and came the same day we traded for Ricky I believe. Problem was he could never stay healthy, always tearing a pectoral muscle or something like that. I really would have liked to see him healthy for us.
