Well, I thought we had heard every far-fetched trade/pickup when the Seau thread broke, how about something more realistic?

Getting Jake Plummer. He's a definate upgrade from Harrington / Lemon, and if we do not pick up a QB in the draft, you think the Broncos would go for a Harrington for Plummer trade.

I would actually like it. He's not great. But it's not like we have a "great" QB right now, that is, depending on how Culpepper comes back, and who knows how he will end up.

not a shabby proposal, but there are several issues here.

1) he will command a pretty high price. He is starting-QB material for many teams in this league.

2) he will prefer to go somewhere where he will be the starter. Here he would have to compete, and if DC comes back from injury ok he will be a backup for sure.

3) many in league circles already think he is going to the texans, who not only have the cap room but have the need and the familiarity with him being that Kubiak is their coach.

so while it is an interesting idea, i don't see it happening.

plummer drops back he got chambers open intercepted

vs

culpepper drops back and he fumbles the ball the bills recover

vs
joey drops back hes got chambers wide open overthrows the ball

C'mon, he's better than Joey blue skies!

but still, that's not saying much.

Then what's the point? If he's better than Harrington, we'd probably have to give up another draft pick in return.

The idea is to find someone, Culpepper or not, that can be a franchise QB. Plummer has shown he's short of that mark. Why would you settle for less just because he's a perceived upgrade but not a major one?

if i'm not mistaken, Plummer is a FA - thus no draft picks necessary... just a butt-load of cash.

Plummer is not a FA and they Broncos will not trade him as that would count more against the cap. They will cut him for sure unless there is a great deal to be had. He is one of the worst QB's in the league, I live in Denver and they were calling for Cutler since the preseason.

Plummer sucks.
If he goes to Houston, they would be better off trading a 4th round pick for Carr.
At least Carr is young and still has potential that Cameron might bring out.
