I personally don't think any organization should be responsible for helping an employee kick their drug habit unless drugs were an official capacity of the team as in pain killers

Difference of opinion on that and I would agree that in business it is not their responsibility, but we still see a number of businesses (particularly at the highest levels) that will hold positions for employees while they get help for one thing or another and lets not pretend NFL players are typical employees, they are multimillionaires, many of whom had or have very little guidance and come from backgrounds that may or may not have condone such behavior...players are also investments and sometimes you have to try to protect those investments.

I'm not condoning drug use at all, but moving on from a guy when a different solution could save his career or even his life (in extreme circumstances) then why not go that route...or at least give it a try?

The more I think about this, maybe it is good Philbin has wiggled into a position of more power. If reports are true, he was the only guy that knew Martin COULD NOT play LT. He reportedly pushed for Brandon Albert only to be rebuffed by Ireland. And say what you will about our late season collapse, but to even be in playoff contention with no O-line and the bullying scandal is a borderline miracle. Considering Ross has no clue and Hickey is an unknown at this point, Philbin may be the one guy in this orginization that actually know wtf he's doing.

explain to me how anyone could think martin could play LT or any NFL lineman position when he could only push 225 20 times at his own pro day...even samson satele pushed it 25 times at the combine which is much stricter about form and time...

you had 38 Olinemen, 12 dlinemen, 14 running backs, and 7 TE push 225 more than martin...

Only 10 Olinemen at the combine pushed it less than martin...

the dude was weak physically so how the hell was he supposed to play LT? then remember the ravens game when suggs picked his marshmellow a$$ up and threw him into tannehill? come on...anyone who though this kid could play pro ball at a high level was smoking with ricky williams...

Ireland's desperate grab of having just one of his 2nd round picks pan out...

How is this thread 12 pages?
The issue is whether to turn a blind eye to the texts between Incognito and Martin that allude to Pouncey being the source of "molly" - which I understand is similar to ecstasy.
The texts strongly suggest to heavy use of recreational drugs. I personally don't have a problem with marijuana, but it concerns me greatly if our players are on hard drugs.
Because Pouncey is a Pro Bowl Center, do we just ignore the information from the texts (not to mention the connection with Hernandez for which he has been subpoenaed)? That is why it's 12 pages long.

I understand the concerns but if we field a team of upstanding citizens and choir boys we will never win a super bowl. Pouncey is arguably are best player which is sad. This mind state is why we didn't draft Ray Lewis and Randy Moss. Take a look at college football. Once a team starts to have players getting arrested, they tend to get good. Remember people, this is football.

Let's stay mediocre by cutting our good players.

We have no great players and only a handful of good ones. If the good ones are over 30 and are eating significant cap, we need to let them go. We need cheap young replacements through the draft. It's not like we're going to win the Super Bowl next year.

Pouncey is not arguably our best player.

This certainly does put Philbin in an awkward spot. Continue his "character" based churning of the roster or stick to his philosophy of having good character personnel. I will be interested to see this one play out.
