The Manning/Tannehill option is very attractive but VERY costly. The Matt Flynn option isn't nearly so costly, IMO. I think it's a good option.
I'm just so sick of options not panning out. I mean taking a shot and missing is one thing but a decade plus of missing is getting a bit tiring.
I like the position that Miami is in this offseason in terms of what shot they think is right for the club. Moore provides enough maneuvering room that any of the options are relatively low risk this season.
Yeah Manning is high risk long term, due to injury and age but you know Manning is going to be hell bent on showing every single critic that they were dead wrong. The only question is - will he be healthy enough to match his drive? Every NFL team is on level ground when it comes to the Manning decision, they all risk the same amount for the same potential reward.
Flynn isn't proven and still warrants risk but maybe a lower risk than Manning. I trust the coaching staff here, if Philbin decides Flynn is the guy and convinces Ireland and Ross I would certainly stand by the decision. No coach or staff is in better position to know what Flynn's talent level actually is than Miami right now.
The same can be said with the Tannehill situation and Sherman. I have to believe that out of all NFL teams Miami is the most qualified at this point to make the decision on Tannehill and what his value is to Miami.
So given the two inside tracks and the comfort that Moore provides the team, Miami is actually in a good position this season to make a move and I hope make the right move. Next season they are in the same position as all 31 other clubs on the QB front in terms of evaluation. The free agent field is less than desirable and the draft isn't going to be loaded with QB talent.
If they sign Manning they better have a secession plan already in place, he will need an understudy and that isn't going to be Devlin. Manning also better accept a bargain contract if Miami hopes to fill in the rest of the puzzle this offseason. They need a RT, pass rusher and safety pretty badly too.
I have to say, I have a good feeling about this one though and not that homer feeling of a desperation liking. I mean a legit feeling that they finally get it right.
