Positive Press On NFL Network

Some talking heads also said Steve Spurrier didn't get a fair shake. Who knows? Every team's fans get excited when they replace a mediocre coach. I still remember how great I thought Gregg Williams attacking D was gonna look in Buffalo after replacing Wade Phillips. Unfortunately for Bills fans, Wade Phillips was a better head coach than Gregg.

Well Spurrier had a better record than Joe Gibbs did last year (and Spurrier didn't have Portis). So if Spurrier is a moron then Gibbs must be..........

The JT interview was in the begining, they talk about the team asawhole after they talk to Alex Smith.
HEY, who you calling an asawhole :goof:
Nah, really, I am soo glad to see someone realize that we actually do have potential.

Gibbs was a genius. Problem is, the NFL changes a lot year to year. Just because a coach did well in the NFL a decade ago doesn't mean he can come back and do well again.

It's funny that you brought up Gibbs because that is who I think of when people mention Saban coached in the NFL almost 10 years ago...

I have a feeling you will be saying the same of Mularkey in a year or two.. Should've kept Phillips.

I am happy to have Mularkey. He played in the NFL so he understands the players more than most NFL head coaches. His philosphy is to put every player in a position to succeed. He develops his plays this way because he was a 12th round draft pick that had a good NFL career by learning how to use his talents to maximum advantage.

He has assembled a great staff:

Jerry Gray-Defensive Coordinator Had the #2 ranked Defense last year, 1st in Turnovers with a lot of games missed by Lawyer Milloy and Troy Vincent.

Tom Clements-Offensive Coordinator- Finalist for the Notre Dame job did a good job in his first year and we should see him earn his keep by easing JP Losman into the starting QB role this year.

Sam Wyche- QB's coach- Tutored Joe Montana and Boomer Esiason, now is working on his next pupil in JP Losman. Also led the Bengals to the Superbowl as a head coach and is still one of the most innovative offensive minds in the game.

Jim McNally-Offensive Line Again, one of the best in the business. One of the best teachers of line play, has taken castoffs and undrafted players throughout his career and turned them into good NFL players.

Bobby April-Special Teams Took one of the worst NFL special teams units and turned them into the #1 unit in his first year. The Bills scored 5 TD's on special teams including punt returns, kickoff returns, and blocked punts...something not seen since 1959 when the Chicago Cardinals registered 5 special teams TD's.

The thing that I like best about Mularkey so far is that he has a killer instinct. When we get someone down we don't just play not to lose we go for the kill. That's how the Bills had the largest average margin of victory in their wins for any team last year. After the slow start, the Bills beat up on every team not named Pittsburgh or New England.

This is the year we should really see Mularkey open it up. The first year was about setting the tone, installing his systems, etc. This is when we will see the crazy reverses, WR options, etc that we saw when he was the offensive coordinator at Pittsburgh.

BTW, if having a winning season in Mularkey's first year should make us wish for Wade Phillips back, will you ask for Dave Wannstedt back if Saban has a losing first year?!

I recall other big name college coaches getting talked up when they joined the NFL as well.....Butch Davis and Steve Spurrier anyone?

Clearly a Bills fan trying to start stuff. Saban is alot smarter then both of these guys and he had success everywhere he went. When he arrived at the Browns, they was one of the worst then Saban made them one of the best. The difference between Gibbs and Saban is Gibbs went away from football to go to Nascar and Saban continued to coach football. You are also forgeting that Saban had a great coach teaching me the ways. So before you run your mouth again like that, make sure you know what you are talking about.

And as I said, Spurrier was considered smarter than everyone else and he had success everywhere he went.

Coaching college is not the same as the NFL. Many coaches that do great in college can't hack it in the NFL.

But you must not forget, Spurrier tried to bring his College system into the NFL and it didn't work out for him. Just because Saban was a College HC doesn't mean that he will fail in the NFL. Jimmy Johnson proved that and some others.

Your memory is fuzzy. Spurrier was talked about a lot, but not talked up. Many people were questioning whether his style of offense and his abrasive coaching style would work in the NFL. Obviously they did not.
Butch Davis was only talked about a little, and he did deliver one playoff appearance.
Neither one, however, was felt to be as NFL ready as Saban.

Where have I said that Saban would fail? My guess is that he will succeed. Unlike Dolphin fans, I do realize that most new NFL head coaches don't make it. Everyone that gets hired for an NFL head coaching job has a great resume. Some make it, some don't.

The NFL can humble even the greatest football minds.

Bill Belichick's record as a NFL head coach before Tom Brady:

41 Wins -59 Losses

Now I keep hearing that Saban is the same as Belichick, the greatest mind in the game today. Would Belichick even have a head coaching job if not for that freak hit on Drew Bledsoe?

excited

nfl network is great ,the miami dolphins will in many games!!!!!!:goof:

Neither had any NFL coaching experience previously did they? Bad comparison.
Peter king, in my opinion is the only sports writer worth listening too..............

Good piece on the Fins by Adam. Very pro-Saban in every sense even comparing him to Shula and JJ saying he is a combo of both of their good traits.

Also emphasised how the offense is much improved and how David Boston might be back to his old form of a few years ago.
Well, that's all I had to hear. I'm glad we're finally starting to get some love. I don't expect us to go San Diego Chargers on the league this season, but, I really expect this team to win at least 9 games this season.
