Yes, we need to be realistic. Bess is our only WR even remotely close to being proven. Maybe you could argue for Nannee and the injured Hartline, but that's it. Beyond that we have completely unproven UDFA's and late round picks who have shown us little to believe that they'll be anything. Other teams castoffs are most likely good enough to be our #4 receiver at worst, and we need to bring a few in, whether big name guys like Plax, Branch/Stallworth or one of the Williams, or lesser-known guys with talent. I just hope Ireland isn't getting wedded to guys we have who have shown little to nothing.
Exactly. The people who are talking about "bandaids" and "let the kids play" and things like that are lost. Its not about not giving an opportunity to some of these bottom of the roster scrubs. And yes, while we dont expect to contend for a title this year, it dosent mean we have to let one area of our offense COMPLETELY RUIN any chance we have of winning games and developing our rookie QB.
WE HAVE TO get a competent NFL receiver in here. Right now we have 3 guys on our roster who have proven they can play in the NFL as a WR. One of them is a great slot man, one has proven to be a 3 or 4 on both of the teams he played on previously, and the other is currently injured. There is just no way in hell we can go into a season like that. What the hell happens if one of those guys gets injured? We have to have at least one more player at this position who we are guarenteed has the ability to play in the NFL. That way you know youre going into a game with at least 3.
If you go into a game and you dont have a WR who can so much as get open, youre totally ****ed. Your offense is not going to have any chance of moving the ball and youre going to put your QB in a terrible situation where he can get himself hurt. We dont need that **** right now.
Yes, Id love to see a guy like Hogan get an opportunity. If a couple of these guys make the roster, thats great. If they not only make the roster, but wind up being legit NFL receivers for us.... thats awesome. But, we cant just give 3 of them a chance just for the hell of it. We cant waive the white flag at the position.
There is no way in hell a team can operate with this big of a weakness at any position in an NFL game. The opposition will ****ing kill your entire offensive unit if there is a link that weak.
Go sign another guy who can be counted on to play. Then we have 4 guys and if one gets hurt, we know we have at least 3 going into a game. Keep 2 of these hopefulls that we have and give them a chance. Hopefully, they will work out and then we know we can make it through the season and possibly even find a player we can count on in the future.
However, I dont recommend just keeping say Roberto Wallace and throwing him out there and hoping he can get it done. This guy has been in this league for a couple of years and is yet to show that he is even close to worthy. I dont see it happening. If you keep a guy like that you have to have 4 ahead of him that you know can play in this league.
